1 Distinguish between the terms conductance and specific conductance (3)
2 What are the functions of a salt bridge? (3)
3 A zinc wire is dipped in silver nitrate solution taken in beaker A and a (3)
silver wire is dipped in zinc sulphate solution taken in beaker B. Predict
in which beaker the ions present will get reduced. Given that the
standard reduction potential of zinc and silver are -0.76V M and +0.80V
respectively.
4 Design a reversible cell for the reaction; (3)

And also derive Nernst for the cell.
5 Give the working principle of H2-O2 fuel cell with cell reactions. (3)
6 How does a lithium–ion cell work? Write the cell reactions (3)

Write the reaction taking place at positive electrode during
charging. Why the cells become explosive on 100% charging (ie,
x=1)?
8 Give an example for each primary reference electrode and secondary (3)

17 a) Calculate the amount of electric energy available from a dry (4)
cell which consume 6.55g Zn. given that emf of the cell is 1.5 V and
atomic weight of Zn is 65.5 u
18 a) Find the Potential of hydrogen electrode and oxygen gas electrode at 25'C (4)
for solution of pH=O and pH=14. (Hint, derive Nernst equation for
Hydrogen gas electrode in acidic medium and solve, similarly derive Nernst
equation of Oxygen gas electrode in acidic medium and solve )
19 a) At 25oC the standard emf of a cell having reaction involving two (4)
electron charge is found to be 0.295 V. Calculate the equilibrium
constant of the reaction.
20 a) Find the single electrode potential for copper metal in contact with 0.2 (4)
M CuSO4 solution at 298 K. E0 Cu2+/Cu = 0.34 V. The copper sulphate
solution is only 80% dissociated.
21 a) Calculate the emf of the following cell at 25 oC; (4)

ohm, what is the cell constant?
23 a) A conductivity cell is found to have two parallel plates of area 1.5cm2 (4)
kept at 9.8cm apart. It gives a resistance 1500ohm when filled with the
electrolytic solution. Find the cell constant and conductivity of the
solution.
24 a) Why Aluminium metal when reacts with acid and base liberates H2 gas; (4)
whereas Fe metal can liberate H2 only from acids.

25 a) A zinc rod is dipped 0.3 M CuSO4 solution. Displacement reactions (4)

= -0.76).
26 a) Calculate the emf of the cell Fe/Fe2+(0.01)//Ag+(0.1)/Ag at 298K if (4)
standard electrode potentials of Fe and Ag are –0.42V and 0.80V
respectively.
27) a) Calculate the emf of the cell Al/Al3+(0.01)//Cu2+(0.1)/Cu at 298K if (4)
standard electrode potentials of Al and Cu are –1.67 V and 0.34V
respectively.
28) a) Calculate the equilibrium constant of the redox reaction takes place in (4)
