Mini Water Bottle Rocket Project Guide

The Mini Water Bottle Rocket project requires students to work in teams to design and launch a water bottle rocket while applying principles of gas laws and ensuring safety. Each group will present their design, conduct multiple launches, and discuss the results, with scoring based on criteria such as application of gas laws, rocket functionality, aesthetics, teamwork, and presentation. The project emphasizes collaboration and scientific understanding, culminating in a performance evaluation by a judge.

Group Leader:

Mini Water Bottle Rocket

General Objective and Guidelines:
This performance task entitled “Mini Water Bottle Rocket” demonstrates principles of gas laws and propulsion, ensuring a safe
performance, stable design and following launch safety guidelines. Student must work as a team to present the design, and actual
rocket performance, highlighting scientific concepts applied during the project.
Mechanics:
Setting Up
 Each group should ensure they have their assembled water bottle rocket at the presentation date and place the project at the
front of Building C.
 Safety Check: All group members and observers should maintain a safe distance from the launching area.

Performance Time
 Group Introduction: Each group will be given 3-5 minutes to introduce their rocket design and explains how gas laws apply to
it.
 Launching time: Each group will be given 3 attempts to launch their rocket. Thus, the rocket should be made with durability.
Record flight time ( secs where the rocket is in the air) and observations on the rocket’s performance. The longest air time
covered by the rocket among trials would be the recorded time from the group.
 Post-Launch Discussion: Each group have 2 minutes to discuss the results and conclusion specifically what are the factors that
influences the flight and how gas laws influenced flight.
 Overall score for the presentation follow the succeeding rubrics.
