Scientific Method: Meaning, Characteristics

Science refers to a systematic and organised body of knowledge in any area of


inquiry that is acquired using the scientific method. Etymological the word
Science derived from the Latin word Scientia meaning knowledge. Science can
be grouped into two broad categories:
• Natural Science
• Social Science
The natural sciences are different from the social sciences in several respects.
The natural sciences are more precise and accurate then social sciences,
because social sciences are more complex in nature.
Social Sciences have scientific methods to understand the social phenomena.
Sociology uses scientific methods to understand society and social problems.
Scientific method meaning, a systematic study. There are some procedures
and techniques in this method. Scientific method is a systematic approach to
researching questions and problems through objectives and accurate
observation, collection and analysis of data, direct experimentation and
repeating of procedures.
Scientific method refers to a standardised set of techniques for building
scientific knowledge, such as how to make valid observations, how to
interrupt results, and how to generalize those results. The scientific method
allows researchers to independently and impartially test pre-existing theories
and prior findings, and subject them to open debate and modification.
Sociological research is scientific ,because it accusing information about
various aspects of society and social behaviour through scientific methods. Like
other scientists sociologist collect and analysis data, use scientific observation
and conduct experiments.
