Address: Dhaanish Nagar Vanchuvancherry Padappai, near Tambaram, Chennai,
Tamil Nadu 601301
District: Kancheepuram
Pincode: 601301
6. Introduction:
Using real-time facial recognition technology, the AI-Based Attendance Marking
System for Government Schools was created to automate student attendance. It
saves time in the classroom, lowers manual error rates, and produces accurate
attendance records. The system uses computer vision and machine learning to
provide daily monitoring and strong identity verification.

7. Objectives of the project:

• Use real-time facial recognition to automatically mark students' attendance.

• Reduce manual errors and avoid proxy attendance.
• Create a safe online attendance record for documentation and analysis.
• Give administrators and teachers an easy-to-use interface.
• Make the system flexible and scalable to accommodate different class and
school sizes.
8. Methodology:
• Enrolment and Dataset Development:

The application is used to register new students, and OpenCV and the
webcam are used to take and store their facial images (see
face_attendance.py).

• Model for Face Recognition:

OpenCV's LBPH (Local Binary Patterns Histograms) model is utilized

because it strikes a balance between speed, accuracy, and applicability to
real-world situations.

The system collects a dataset of face photos during registration (200 per
user by default for robustness).

• Attendance in Real Time:

A live video feed is used to identify students. To avoid duplicate entries

within a session, the student's name, date, and time are recorded in
attendance_log.csv when a registered face is identified.

For auditing and review purposes, unknown faces are kept apart.

• Interface for Users:

Smooth navigation, registration, login (attendance), and admin features are
made possible by an easy-to-use Tkinter-based application ([Link]).
includes error handling, interactive forms, and live camera streaming.
• CSV Recording:
For analysis and documentation purposes, every attendance is time-
stamped and exported to CSV.
9. Workplan:
Activity Details Timeline
Requirement Analysis Define goals, finalize 1
software/hardware
requirements
Dataset Collection Register students, 2-3
capture multiple facial
images for accuracy
Face Model Training Use OpenCV to train 3

model
GUI/UX Development Build and refine Tkinter 4-5
interface for usability
Integration Integrate registration, 6
recognition, and
attendance modules
Testing & Debugging Test across varied 7
conditions (lighting,
backgrounds); fix issues
Pilot Implementation Try in a live classroom; 8
iterate on user feedback
Documentation/Report Prepare guides, usage 9
manuals, and
technical/administrative
documentation
10. Expected Outcome of the project:
• a reliable, fully functional face recognition attendance system for public
schools.
• greatly increased precision and dependability in the administration of school
attendance.
• Adaptable logs for simple integration with government dashboards or school
reporting.

• scalable design for upcoming enhancements (like cloud syncing or additional

biometrics).
11. Is the project proposed relevant to the Industry / Society?
Yes / No: Yes
• increases management efficiency in schools by automating a crucial
administrative procedure.
• avoids frequent problems like manual entry errors and proxy attendance.
• establishes the framework for digital analytics and record-keeping in the field
of education.
• corresponds with the goals of Smart Schools and Digital India.
• Private companies might use it for co-working spaces or workforce tracking.

12. Can the product or process developed in the project be taken up for filing a
Patent?
Yes / No: Yes
The system makes use of well-known algorithms and designs, but its complete
integration—which includes a user interface, process automation, and strong
dataset management—is novel for scalable, real-time implementation in government
school settings.
Prior Art search done?
Yes/No: No
13. Budget details (The following is a tentative budget with break-up details; it is
subject to change depending on the specific project requirements):
