Monas
Identification
Monas, or the National Monument, is one of the most well-known landmarks in Jakarta,
Indonesia. It is located in the center of Merdeka Square and becomes a symbol of the nation’s
independence.
Description
The monument is 132 meters tall and has a flame at the top covered with gold foil. Inside, there
is a museum and a hall of independence that show Indonesia's struggle for freedom. Visitors
can go to the top of Monas to enjoy the city view. The area around Monas is also a public park,
often used for exercise and recreation.
