WH-Questions in Present Simple and Present Continuous
In English, WH-questions are questions that begin with a WH-word. These include: who,
what, where, when, why, and how (even though 'how' does not start with 'wh', it is still
considered a WH-word). These questions are used to ask for specific information.
WH-Words:
• Who – asking about a person
• What – asking about a thing or information
• Where – asking about a place
• When – asking about time
• Why – asking about reason
• How – asking about manner or process
WH-Questions in Present Simple:
Form: WH-word + do/does + subject + base verb+?
Use: For habits, routines, or general truths.
Examples:
• What do you eat for breakfast?
• Where does she work?
• When do they go to school?
• Why do you like this movie?
• How do we get to the station?
WH-Questions in Present Continuous:
Form: WH-word + am/is/are + subject + verb-ing+?
Use: For actions happening right now or temporary actions.
Examples:
• What are you doing?
• Where is he going?
• Why are they laughing?
• Who is she talking to?
• How are you feeling?

Additional WH-Words: How many & How much:
• How many – asking about quantity (countable nouns)
Example: How many apples do you eat every day?
• How much – asking about quantity (uncountable nouns)
Example: How much water do you drink daily?
Examples for Each WH-Word:
• Who – Who is calling you?
• What – What do you want for lunch?
• Where – Where are they staying?
• When – When does the movie start?
• Why – Why are you crying?
• How – How do you solve this problem?
• How many – How many books do you have?
• How much – How much sugar do you need?
