Throughout high school, I learned that progress rarely happens in a straight

line. At times, success came easily; other moments required patience,

discipline, and the willingness to try again after failure. One of the most
meaningful lessons I gained came from a personal goal I set during
sophomore year—to improve my public speaking skills. At the time, even
introducing myself in front of a class made my hands shake. Instead of
avoiding the challenge, I decided to confront it.

I joined a student leadership committee, volunteered to lead group

presentations, and practiced speaking in front of friends. I stumbled many
times. My voice cracked, I lost my place, and sometimes I felt like giving up.
But each attempt made me more confident and comfortable. Little by little,
my fear turned into familiarity, and eventually into excitement. By senior
year, I was presenting confidently at school events and supporting
classmates who felt the same fear I once did.

This experience taught me that growth happens when you step outside your
comfort zone. I learned that perseverance is not about being fearless—it is
about moving forward despite fear. That mindset will continue to guide me in
college and beyond.
