Functions
[Link].8.F.A.2
Compare properties of two functions each represented in a different way (algebraically, graphically, numerically in tables, or by verbal
descriptions).
[Link].8.F.A.3
Interpret the equation y = mx + b as defining a linear function, whose graph is a straight line; give examples of functions that are not linear.
[Link].A.2
Construct linear and exponential functions, including arithmetic and geometric sequences, given a graph, a description of a relationship, or two
input-output pairs (include reading these from a table).
[Link].C.7
Graph functions expressed symbolically and show key features of the graph, by hand in simple cases and using technology for more complicated
cases.*
[Link].C.7.A
Graph linear and quadratic functions and show intercepts, maxima, and minima.
Printable Worksheet
This worksheet is meant to be printed, doubles-sided, and cut into two worksheets. *Select the
double-sided option: “Print both sides flip pages on short edge.” In my classroom, I use this in my
interactive notebook. Every student gets a worksheet that we tape into our notebook. Plus it is
a great scaffold for students who have trouble writing.
Digital Worksheet
Here are 2 ways I have used this digitally:
1. If you use a digital / online notebook, students can copy and paste the slides into their
notebook.
2. It can be given as a worksheet by itself.
When you click the button, it will open a new tab and ask you to create a copy. That copy
will be what you can add to your Google Classroom, send to your students, or work on
with your kids!

{Distributive Property} Name: ANSWER KEY Practice time! (Be careful: Some have negatives!)
Notes 1. 4(x + 5) = 4( ___ ) + 4( ___ ) = 4x+20
What is the Distributive Property? When a term is being
multiplied by a sum, you multiply the term by each 2. 2(9 + p) = ___( ___ ) + ___( ___ ) = 18+2p
component of the sum separately and then add them
together.
3. 4(z + 10) = ___( ___ ) + ___( ___ ) = 4z+40
Draw arrows to show how the outside affects the inside:
4. -9(h + 11) = ___( ___ ) + ___( ___ ) = -9h - 99
a(b + c) →a( b ) + a( c ) → ab + ac
5. 5(x - 12) = ___( ___ ) + ___( ___ ) = 5x-60
Draw arrows and fill in the missing pieces:
3(2 + 6) →3( 2 ) + 3( 6 ) → 6 + 18 6. 7(2x + 4) = ___( ___ ) + ___( ___ ) = 14x+28
7. 6(8b + 3) = ___( ___ ) + ___( ___ ) = 48b+18
3(4 + 7) →3( 4 ) + 3( 7 ) → 12 + 21
Try it with a variable! 8. - (10v - 6) = ___( ___ ) + ___( ___ ) = -10v+6
3(x + 6) →3( x ) + 3( 6 ) → 3x + 18
9. 2(x + y + z) = ___( ___ ) + ___( ___ ) + ___( ___ ) =
Can this be combined any further? Why or why not?
2x+2y+2z
No because 3x and 18 are not like terms and
therefore cannot be combined. 10. 3(a - b + c) = ___( ___ ) + ___( ___ ) + ___( ___ ) =
3a-3b+3c
