Overview of the Standard Model in Physics

The Standard Model of Particle Physics categorizes particles into three main groups: matter particles (fermions), force particles (bosons), and the Higgs boson. Matter particles include six types of quarks and six types of leptons, while force particles include photons, gluons, and W/Z bosons. The Higgs boson is crucial for providing mass to other particles through the Higgs field.

Summary of the Standard Model of Particle

Physics

The Standard Model classifies particles into 3 main groups:

1- Matter Particles (Fermions):
Divided into:
Quarks: six types (up, down, charm, strange, top, bottom).
Leptons: six types (electron, muon, tau + three neutrinos).

2- Force Particles (Bosons):

These carry the fundamental forces:
Photon → electromagnetic force.
Gluons → strong force.
W⁺, W⁻, Z⁰ → weak force.

3- Higgs Boson:
Responsible for giving mass to particles through the Higgs
field.
• Groups in the Standard Model

Quarks: six types, combine to form protons and neutrons,

interact with all forces

Leptons: six types (electron, muon, tau + neutrinos),

electrons are in atoms, neutrinos interact very weakly.

Bosons: force carriers (photon, gluons, W, Z).

Higgs Boson: gives mass to particles.
