Dimensioning & Lettering in Engineering

The document outlines the basics of dimensioning and lettering techniques for first semester electrical engineering students. It covers the necessity, methods, and principles of dimensioning various shapes and sizes, as well as the introduction to lettering in engineering drawings. Additionally, it includes specific guidelines for dimensioning circles, threaded holes, and other features, along with references to figures from a textbook on engineering drawing.

Introduction to dimensioning and its necessity,
method and principles (theoretical instructions)

➢ The process of writing or giving measurements of an object on a

prepared drawing with the help of extended lines, dimension
lines and arrow heads is known as “Dimensioning”.

➢ The dimension lines and the extended lines should be thinner as

compared to object lines.

➢ The extended lines should start leaving a clearance of 1 or 2 mm

from the object lines.

➢ Dimension lines should be drawn at least 8 mm away from the

outlines and from each other
