Carrying out a regular vehicle service /maintenance in a workshop involves several key steps

to ensure that the vehicle is thoroughly checked, maintained, and repaired as needed. Here's
an outline of the typical steps involved in performing a regular vehicle service:

1. Pre-Service Vehicle Inspection

 Customer Check-In: Receive the vehicle, note the customer’s concerns, and confirm
the service/maintenance package
 Initial Walk around: Inspect the vehicle visually for any obvious issues like body
damage, tire condition, or fluid leaks and take note.
 Test Drive (if applicable): Drive the vehicle to check for any noticeable performance
issues (e.g., unusual noises, vibrations, or handling problems).

2. Under the vehicle Checks

 Oil Change: Drain old engine oil and replace with fresh oil, changing the oil filter in
the process.
 Coolant Check/Refill: Check the coolant level and top-up or replace as necessary.
 Air Filter Inspection: Inspect and replace the air filter if it’s clogged or dirty.
 Fuel Filter: Check the fuel filter and replace if necessary (depending on service
interval).
 Drive Belts and Timing Belt: Inspect the condition of belts for cracks or wear.
Replace if necessary.
 Battery Check: Inspect battery terminals for corrosion, check charge level, and clean
terminals if needed.
 Brake Fluid and Clutch Fluid: Check fluid levels and top-up if required, inspect for
any signs of leaks.
 Spark Plugs: Inspect and replace spark plugs if needed, based on service interval.
 Injector inspection. Inspect the injector nozzles in the case of c.i engines.
 Power Steering Fluid: Check fluid levels and refill if necessary.

3. Inspection of Vehicle Systems

 Brakes: Inspect brake pads, rotors, and brake lines for wear or damage.
 Suspension: Check for wear in shock absorbers, struts, ball joints, and other
suspension components.
 Tires: Inspect tire condition (tread depth, sidewall integrity) and check tire pressures.
Rotate tires if necessary.
 Lights and Indicators: Check all exterior lights, including headlights, brake lights,
turn signals, and reverse lights.
 Wipers and Windshield Washer: Inspect wipers for wear and top-up windshield
washer fluid.
 Exhaust System: Inspect exhaust for any leaks or damage.
 Transmission Fluid: Check and top-up transmission fluid as necessary.

4. Fluid and Lubrication Checks

 Engine Oil: Verify the oil change was completed successfully, check for oil leaks
around the engine.
 Transmission Fluid: Ensure correct levels and clean condition.
 Brake Fluid: Inspect fluid level and condition, top-up or flush as necessary.
 Differential and Gearbox Oil: Check and replace (if necessary) for manual vehicles.

5. Diagnostic Scan (if applicable)

 Use of Diagnostic Tools: Connect the vehicle to a diagnostic tool to check for any
stored error codes or malfunctions.
 Clear Error Codes: If no major issues are found, clear any non-critical error codes.

6. Post-Service Vehicle Inspection

 Test Drive: Conduct another test drive to ensure the vehicle is running smoothly after
the service. Check for unusual sounds, vibrations, or handling issues.
 Visual Inspection: Re-check fluid levels and general condition of the vehicle after the
test drive.

7. Customer Report

 Provide Service Report: Detail the work performed, fluids replaced, and any issues
found or recommendations for future service.
 Explain Services Done: Briefly explain the work completed, such as oil change,
brake check, tire rotation, etc.
 Discuss Any Future Repairs: If any issues or potential problems were identified,
discuss them with the customer and recommend any necessary repairs or future
services.

8. Finalize and Return the Vehicle

 Clean the Vehicle: Wash the exterior and clean the interior (optional, depending on
the service package).
 Return Vehicle: Provide the customer with the keys and any necessary
documentation (e.g., invoices, service records).
 Customer Satisfaction: Ensure customer is satisfied with the service and answer any
further questions they may have.

9. Record Keeping and Documentation

 Update Service Records: Document the work done in the vehicle’s service history.
 Schedule Next Service: Based on the service schedule, note when the next regular
service is due.
