DEPARTMENT

``Departmentation ‘’ means division of work into smaller units and

their re-grouping into bigger units ( Departments ) on the basis of
similarity of features. As the organization grows in size, the work is
divided into units and sub-units. Departments are created and activities of
similar nature are grouped in one unit. Each departments is headed by a
person known as departmental manager.

It helps in expanding an organizational and also promoters efficiency

by dividing the work on the basis of specialization of activities and
appointing people in various department on the basis of their specialized
knowledge.

DEFINITION:
Departmentation is a process of dividing the large monolithic functional organizational
into small and flexible administrative units

NEED FOR DEPARTMENTATION:

The need for departmentation arises due to various reasons that
contribute to an organization’s overall success and efficiency. Some of the
key reasons include:

Specialization:

Departmentation enables organizations to leverage the benefits of

specialization. By dividing work based on expertise, employees can focus on

their areas of proficiency, leading to increased productivity and higher-quality

output.

17
Coordination:

Departmentation facilitates improved coordination between different

departments, ensuring a smooth workflow. It also helps reduce communication barriers,
as each department knows its specific roles and responsibilities.

Control:
Departmentation simplifies the process of monitoring and controlling the activities
of various departments. By setting departmental goals and performance standards,
managers can evaluate each department’s progress and implement corrective actions
when necessary.

Accountability:

Departmentation fosters a sense of responsibility among employees by clearly

defining their roles and responsibilities. This clear demarcation helps employees
understand their contribution to the organization and encourages them to take
ownership of their work.

Growth and Expansion:

As organizations grow, the need for departmentation becomes increasingly

critical. A well-structured departmental framework allows organizations to expand their
operations and handle increased workloads more efficiently.

18
Resource Utilization:

Departmentation promotes the effective utilization of resources,

including human capital, by ensuring that employees with specific skills
are assigned to relevant tasks.
This leads to better productivity and reduces the wastage of time and resources.

HR & MANAGEMENT

19
In any area, human resources management refers to all the procedures
involved in recruiting and supervising employees.

Although there are many fundamental HR functions and responsibilities

that are the same in construction and other industries, there are
occasionally differences in how human resources performs these roles.

HRM in construction sector and some of the most important issues

are i.e. solutions that reduce the need for labour, prefabrication,
standardization and modularization, redesign of construction processes,
re-training existing labour, developing multi-skilled labour, motivation
through reward management and mechanization.

COST CONTROL

Cost control is the practice of identifying and reducing business expenses

to increase profits, and it starts with the budgeting process. A business owner
compares the company's actual financial results with the budgeted
expectations, and if actual costs are higher than planned, management has the
information it needs to take action.

20
DOCUMENT CONTROL DEPARTMENT:

Document control refers to the process of managing documents within

an organization in a systematic and organized manner. It involves creating,
storing, organizing, tracking, and distributing documents to ensure that the
right version of a document is available to the right people at the right
time. Document control is vital for maintaining consistency, accuracy, and
compliance with regulations and standards.

HSE

Health, safety and environment (HSE) management from SGS –

ensure the health and safety of your workers and compliance with HSE
construction requirements. On the shop floor or construction site, your
employees – both staff and sub-contractor personnel – must work together
using various materials and equipment.

21
COLD ROLLED STEEL STRIP:

Cold rolled strip is scale-free hot rolled steel that has been further processed
through cold rolling, annealing, slitting, and edging to achieve extremely precise
dimensional tolerances and customized properties. Including microstructure,
chemistry, surface finish, and tempers.

Given the many advantages of cold rolled steel, it is used numerous

applications, such as garages, steel sheds, home appliance, plumbing fixtures, packing
materials, aerospace components, and production machinery.

22
DRAW BENCHES:

Drawbenches work by pulling a piece of material through a die (smaller in

diameter than the material), forcing it to take on the size and shape of the die as it
passes through.

The first step in the drawing process is to point or swage the end of the material.
A swager or roll pointer is used to shape the end of the material into a point. This is
done because the diameter of the die is smaller than the material itself. The end of the
material first needs to be small enough to fit through the die. Once the pointed end is
pulled through the die, a gripper is used to grab onto it (manual grippers are used for
smaller drawbenches with small amounts of pull, whereas hydraulic grippers are used
for larger drawbenches with greater amounts of pull). Once the gripper has a hold of
the material, the drawbench can pull (force) the material through the die, causing the
metal rod or tube to take on the diameter of the die. If a tube is being drawn, a floating
plug or mandrel can be used inside of it to help maintain a consistent inner diameter
and wall thickness.

23
ELECTRIC RESISTANCE WELDED:

CONCLUSION

On the whole, this internship was a useful experience. I have gained new
knowledge, skills and met many new people. I achieved several of my learning goals,
however for some the conditions did not permit.

I got insight into professional practice. I learned the different facets of working
within a NGO. I experienced that financing, as in many organizations , is an important
factor for the progress of projects. Related to my study I learned more about the biology
and ecology of river dolphins and the threats they face. There is still a lot to discover
and to improve. The methods used at the moment are still not standardized and a
consistent method is in development.

I have seen that local people can contribute to conservation, for example with
their knowledge. Furthermore I experienced that it is of importance that the education
is objective and that you have to be aware of the view of other people. Environmental
education is not one sided, but it is a way of sharing knowledge, ideas and opinions.

The internship was also good to find out what my strengths and weaknesses are.
This helped me to define what skills and knowledge I have to improve in the coming
time. It would be better that the knowledge level of the language is sufficient to
contribute fully to projects.

44
The estimated discriminate function could be great use for the management in
Ascertaining the financial health. This study would have also be useful to company’s
Policy makers and researches for appraising financial health.
