Methodology for Paver Block Laying

The detailed methodology for paver block installation involves a step
by-step process to ensure a durable and visually appealing paved
surface. The common methodology is outlined below and is suitable
for most small to medium-sized pedestrian or vehicular
applications.
1- Site Preparation
• Mark the area to be paved and measure dimensions
accurately.
• Ensure the subgrade slopes away from structures to promote
drainage (typically 1 inch drop per 4 feet).
2- Base Material
• Paver must be sourced from approved suppliers and should
not have cracks, or defects.
• Handle and transport kerb stones using specialist lifting tools
to prevent site injuries and material damage.

3- Sand Bedding
• Spread and screed a 1-inch thick layer of coarse, clean, washed
sand over the compacted base or as per specifcations given in
contract.
• The sand should be Leveled and not compacted prior to laying
pavers.
4- Laying Paver Blocks
• Snap string lines or use chalk lines as guides to maintain straight
joint lines.
• Begin placing paver blocks in the chosen pattern, starting from
one edge or a fixed point.
• Use the “click and drop” method to maintain joint consistency,
with uniform gaps of about 3mm .
5- Cutting and Fitting
• As needed, cut pavers to fit along edges or curves using a
masonry saw or splitter.
• Lay cut pieces as per the layout, ensuring tight, even joints.
6- Edge Restraints
• Install edge restraints (such as concrete or plastic borders) to
hold the pavers in place and prevent spreading.
• Secure restraints before final compaction and joint filling.
7- Compaction and Joint Sanding
• After all pavers are in place, use a plate compactor to settle the
pavers into the sand bed, starting from the edges and working
inward.
• Sweep excess sand from the surface.

8- Sealing (Optional)
Once installation is complete, paving can be sealed to
improve longevity and appearance, though this step is
optional.
9- Curing, Safety, and Quality Control
• Site workers should use PPE, and all equipment and lifts should
follow safety protocols.
• Engage QA/QC personnel for ongoing inspection before, during,
and after installation to validate material, alignment, and finish
against specifications.
