 It was a Sunday morning. Rohan was very excited because Dad had promised to
take him to the new mall. Rohan got ready and dressed well. Dad took the car keys and
both of them left for the mall.
Rohan loved reading. On the way he saw a few boards with some drawings on it and he
asked his father what they meant.
Dad informed him that these are called signboards. Each signboard is designed to give
some information. With the help of these signs, it becomes easy for people to
understand things in their surroundings.
Soon they enter the mall and go to the parking area to park the car. Rohan sees a space
and asks dad to park the car. Dad points out to the no-parking board (show the card)
and says he can’t park here because it is a no-parking area. Soon daddy finds a good
place to park the car. Rohan asks, how he knew he had to park here. Daddy pointed out
to the parking sign (show the card) and said ‘this sign helped me to understand that.
The circle with the letter ‘P’ means that you can park the vehicle here.’
When they reached the first floor they saw a lot of shops selling different products.
Daddy started finding the food court. Rohan saw a few signboards and he saw a sign
with a fork and knife (show the card) and understood that this could be the sign for the
food court. They both headed that way. Rohan had a cheese pizza. After they finished
eating both of them started walking. Rohan wanted to eat a chocolate ice cream so they
went to another counter, bought the ice-cream and started heading toward the parking
area. Rohan finished his ice-cream but he had a soiled tissue in his hand which he
wanted to throw. Daddy showed him the dustbin sign board (show the card) Rohan ran
and threw the tissue in the dustbin. Dad said – ‘smart boy.’
Now Rohan wanted to go to the washroom. Daddy took him. There Rohan saw a sign
(show the card) which had a picture of a girl and a boy. Dad pointed toward the
directions and said that is for the girls and this is for the boys. They both went to the
men’s washroom.
Rohan was too tired now. He said he can’t climb down the stairs. Dad told him that
there is an escalator here. They went down via the escalator and reached the parking
area.
Rohan was amazed because he got to eat his favourite pizza and he had learnt a lot of
new things about sign boards. He said it was so easy to find places with the help of sign
boards.
Activity: Place the sign boards in the class at equal distance where it is visible to the
children. The children have to stand near the sign board called by the teacher. E.g. I am
hungry – children stand near the signboard for food.

seen in the print), magnifying glass.
Procedure:
 Show the children the footprint and ask them what they think it is, how do they know it
is a foot and not a hand? Answer- because of the shape, and size. Appreciate children
for their good observation.
 Research means studying something to get information, to get answers to questions
when we want to know something we research
 Make the children study the footprint using a magnifying glass.
 Tell them the magnifying glass helps us to see small details clearly.

 Introduce them to the characters.- a bear, dog, lion, monkey, rabbit, frog, and a pig
 In a jungle lived a bear with other animals. One sunny morning the bear woke up yawning.
He was very hungry so he decided to eat the honey that he had collected the previous
day. It is not easy to collect honey from the honeycomb. It’s quite a hard work. Suddenly
the bear realized that his honey has been stolen.
Bear (cried) – Oh no! Where did all my honey go? (Picking up the bowl) I had left it right
here.
He gathered all the animals and told them about what had happened.
Suddenly he notices a footprint. (Keep the footprint near the bowl).
The bear brings a magnifying glass and starts studying the footprint carefully.

© LLPL Wonderers | Smart Me | Summer Club-2024

Bear – Now I know who took my honey. This is the footprint of the thief. I will find
him.
The next day the bear calls all the animals. One by one he asks all the animals to make a
footprint on the ground so that he can compare it to find who took away the honey.
First, he calls the dog and asks him to make a footprint on the floor (place the dog's
footprint near the monkey's footprint). Show the bear studying both the footprints using a
magnifying glass.
Bear- Hmm, this is not matching. This print has 5 toes and your print has only 4. Thank you
dog.
Dog – You’re welcome. I hope you get your honey.
Similarly, the bear calls all the animals one by one, compares their footprints, and gives a
reason why it doesn’t match. (Start placing footprint cut-outs of different animals)
Finally, it’s the monkey’s turn.
Monkey- I don’t want to dirty my foot.
All the animals insist that he should make a footprint. Finally the monkey makes a
footprint.
Bear (checks using a magnifying glass) - This footprint matches. This is the same print. It
has 5 toes. Monkey, did you take my honey? (In a stern voice)
Monkey (in a low voice) - Yes, I was hungry and the honey looked very fresh and yummy
so I ate it.
Bear-Ok but you should ask before taking anything.
Monkey- I’m sorry bear, I promise I will never do that again.
Lion- You are a smart bear. You studied the prints and finally caught the thief.
Everyone appreciated the bear and named him ‘Smart Bear’.

Activity – Let all the children use the magnifying glass and compare the footprint just like
the Smart Bear

Procedure:
 Let’s listen to the story of an elephant named Ellie
 Introduce the characters of the story to the children – Ellie the elephant, Tessa the turtle,
and the 2 monkeys.
Once upon a time in a forest there lived an elephant named Ellie. Ellie was a very
intelligent elephant. She could think and ponder about the things around her, unlike any
other animal in the jungle.
One sunny day, as Ellie strolled through the jungle, she noticed, the river that flowed
through the jungle had turned a strange shade of green. The other animals in the jungle
were worried, but they didn't know what to do. Ellie, with her gift of thinking, decided to
investigate. She knelt by the riverbank and observed the water. She thought about the
possible causes of the change in colour. Could it be the plants in the river? Could it be
pollution from outside the jungle?

© LLPL Wonderers | Smart Me | Summer Club-2024

Ellie decided to follow the river upstream to find what the problem was. Along the
way, she met a wise old turtle named Tessa. Tessa had been living in the jungle for a long
time and had seen many changes in the river. Ellie shared her concerns with Tessa. The
wise turtle listened carefully and then shared her knowledge. She told Ellie about a group
of mischievous monkeys who had thrown colourful fruits into the river as a game. Those
fruits had caused the water to change colour.

Ellie thanked Tessa and continued her journey. She found the 2 monkeys playing by the
river, unaware of the trouble they had caused. Ellie thought about the best way to
approach the situation. Instead of scolding the monkeys, she suggested they clean up the
river together and make it even more beautiful. The monkeys agreed, and they worked
alongside Ellie, removing the colourful fruits from the river. As they did, the water
gradually returned to its natural clear blue. (Remove the green dupatta so that the blue
dupatta is seen)

The other animals in the jungle saw Ellie's thoughtfulness and how she had solved the
problem. They realized the value of thinking and joined in to help keep the jungle clean
and beautiful. From that day on, Ellie was known as "Thinker Ellie." She inspired the other
animals in the jungle to think and solve problems.

 Ask them what did the elephant notice in the river? What did she do about the river?
What would have happened if Ellie would have scolded the monkeys?

Endeavour (40 minutes): Elephant craft

Materials required for one child: 1 paper plate, 2 googly eyes, glue, and scissors, sponge, light
grey colour.

end of the class.
 Tell them they have to run to the other end and pick up any 1 glass to see the object
hidden in it.
 If that object is similar to the one the child has, he makes a pair.
 If it does not match, the glass has to be kept on the object just the way it was kept
earlier.
 The child has to remember which glass he/she has opened.
 The game continues till each child finds the same object to make a pair.
 Variation: Here the teacher can ask the children to hop, jump, tiptoe, etc. to reach the
glass.

In a vast ocean there lived a little turtle named Shelly. Shelly was very weak when he was
born. Unlike other turtles he was born with a different shell. His shell was not as strong
and so he had difficulty in swimming.

© LLPL Wonderers | Smart Me | Summer Club-2024

Shelly dreamed of exploring the world away from the ocean. He wanted to touch
the golden sand. He wanted to explore the world full of trees and plants. His friends
always laughed at him because his dream seemed impossible to them. They made fun of
him and told him that he will never be able to achieve what he wishes to and he should
stop dreaming. It’s a very long journey and with a weak shell it is impossible.
Shelly told to himself ‘it is possible and I believe in myself’. He practiced swimming every
day, pushing himself to become faster and stronger. Gradually he saw that he was able to
swim much better.
Once he met an old sea turtle named Lasa. He had travelled far and wide. He had seen the
sand, sunbathed, and explored the world outside the ocean. Lasa became Shelly’s friend
and teacher. He taught Shelly the secrets of the ocean, how to use the waves, and how to
travel by the stars.
As time went by, Shelly became stronger and could swim well. He had learned to use the
waves well and he set off on his journey. He swam and swam for days and finally, he had
arrived at the shore. His happiness had no bounds. The shore had golden sand and lush
palm trees. Looking at his achievement everyone cheered him. Shelly had proved that
with hard work we could achieve anything.

Discussion: Ask the children what was Shelly’s dream. What did he do to achieve his
dream? Who helped Shelly and how? Is there anything they would like to learn or do?

One day Emma’s mom gave her a box of crayons and a large blank sheet of paper. Emma
became excited as she thought about the endless possibilities of what she could create.
She started drawing a bright, smiling sun in the corner of the paper.
As she finished drawing the sun, Emma noticed that the sun on her paper began to shine
brighter and brighter. Slowly the whole room was filled with warm, golden light. Emma’s
room then changed into a magical field with colourful flowers, fluttering butterflies, and
friendly animals.
Emma decided to explore the field. She took a few steps and noticed that the ground
beneath her feet turned into soft, bouncy clouds. Emma giggled with delight. While
bouncing on the clouds she saw a tall, sparkling castle. A pink dragon with shiny wings

greeted her and said-‘Welcome to the castle of dreams. Only those who imagine
can enter the castle.’ Emma used her imagination and a bridge of rainbow was created.
She walked on the rainbow bridge with the dragon and entered the castle. The dragon
said that the castle was filled with rooms full of treasures like books that could talk,
furniture that could dance, living paintings, toys, etc.
There was a garden inside the castle which was full of colourful candies and toffees. There
was a chocolate fountain in between too. Emma was extremely happy as she was
enjoying the wonders of the castle.

Ask the children what they think has happened to the ice candy. Did someone really take
it away? Let them give answers.

Mom says when water is put in the freezer of the fridge – it freezes to ice because the air
in there is very cold. The same ice when kept out melts and becomes water again because
the air is hot here as compared to the fridge. This is how Rohit learns where his ice cream
has gone.
