Cookies
for Santa
By Anita N. Amin
It was Christmas Eve and almost Ian’s
bedtime. Dad was baking cookies. Mom was
singing. Ian was looking out the window for Santa.
“I don’t see Santa,” Ian told his dog, Sir Wags-a-Lot. “But he’s
coming tonight! We need to leave him milk and cookies.”
Ian went to the kitchen. He took out a nice plate. “We need to pick
out two cookies to put on this plate,” Ian told Sir Wags-a-Lot.
“I made a lot of cookies,” Dad said. “Santa will like those.”
Ian looked at the cookies. He held up an almond cookie. Sir Wags-
a-Lot barked. “No?” Ian put down the cookie.
He picked up a butter cookie. “What about this one?” Sir Wags-a-
Lot barked. “No?” Ian put down the cookie.
He picked up a sugar cookie. “This one?”
Sir Wags-a-Lot barked. “But that’s all we
have,” Ian said. Sir Wags-a-Lot ran off.
“Where is that dog going?” Dad asked.
Sir Wags-a-Lot came back with
something in his mouth.
Ian laughed. “A dog biscuit! Santa
won’t like that. We’ll leave him sugar
cookies instead.”
