sales.

Technical Support Staff: Assist with device setup, troubleshooting, and connectivity
issues.

Back-office Support: Monitors OSS/BSS, handles provisioning errors, and escalates

complex issues.

Environment: Customer-focused, organized, and metrics-driven. KPIs include

activation rate, footfall conversion, revenue per customer, and complaint resolution
time.

● Roles and Responsibilities Undertaken

Greeting customers and assessing their requirements.

Assisting in device selection based on network compatibility and budget.

Performing KYC verification for SIM activation and mobile number port-in (MNP).
Explaining features of devices, Jio apps, and data plans.

Supporting SIM activation, including system workflow and status verification.

Troubleshooting basic network issues: APN settings, VoLTE/VoWiFi configuration.

Maintaining store inventory, preparing invoices, and assisting in POS transactions.

Collecting customer feedback and reporting recurring issues to management.

● Mobile Network Evolution: 1G and 2G

● 1G (Analog Network)

Introduced in the 1980s.

Supported only voice services using analog transmission.

Limitations: poor security, limited coverage, static frequency allocation.

● 2G (Digital Network)

Launched in the 1990s.

Supported digital voice, SMS, and low-speed data (GPRS/EDGE).

Advantages: enhanced security, SIM cards for subscriber identity, improved voice
quality.

Enabled the foundation for mobile internet and prepaid/postpaid services.

● Mobile Network Evolution: 3G

3G (Third Generation Network)

Introduced in the early 2000s.

Enabled mobile internet, video calling, and multimedia messaging.

Packet-switched data improved efficiency.

Allowed the early growth of smartphones and mobile applications.

● Mobile Network Evolution: 4G

4G (Fourth Generation Network)

Introduced in the 2010s.

Technologies: LTE, LTE-Advanced, VoLTE.

High-speed mobile broadband (up to hundreds of Mbps), low latency.

Supported mobile video streaming, HD voice, and internet-based services.

4G revolutionized user experience and OTT content consumption.

● Mobile Network Evolution: 5G

5G (Fifth Generation Network)

Introduced late 2010s.

Features: enhanced mobile broadband, ultra-low latency, massive IoT support,

network slicing, cloud-native architecture.
Applications: AR/VR, smart cities, autonomous vehicles, industrial automation.

Challenges: high-frequency mmWave limitations, higher deployment cost,

infrastructure complexity.

Mobile Network Architecture & Key Components (Part 2)

● Transport Network & Backhaul

Connects RAN to the core using fiber optics, microwave, and copper links.

Responsible for data throughput, latency, and reliability.

Store relevance: Speed issues in certain areas may be due to limited backhaul
capacity.

● OSS/BSS Systems

OSS (Operations Support System): Monitors network performance, faults,

configuration, and alarms.

BSS (Business Support System): Manages billing, customer service, and service
activation.

Observation: In-store activation errors or complaints are often resolved through BSS
dashboards.

● Technologies Used in Mobile Networks

GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSPA, LTE, LTE-A, VoLTE, NB-IoT, LTE-M, 5G NR.

Signaling protocols: SIP, Diameter, LTE RRC/NAS, 5G SBA.

Practical observation: Understanding device compatibility with different bands helps
resolve customer issues.

Mobile network technologies evolved to meet growing data demands, low latency
requirements, and high reliability.

● Spectrum and Its Impact on Coverage

Low bands (700–900 MHz): long-range coverage, better indoor penetration.

Mid bands (1800–2600 MHz): balance coverage and capacity.

High bands (mmWave, 24–40 GHz): very high capacity, short distance.

Store relevance: Customers inquire about 5G availability and speed, which depends
on spectrum allocation and local RAN deployment.

● Network Planning & QoS

Network planning considers population density, data traffic, peak-hour usage, and
coverage.

Key KPIs: throughput, latency, call drop rate, handover success rate, packet loss.

Optimization techniques: cell splitting, antenna tilt adjustments, carrier aggregation,

self-organizing networks (SON).

Observations: Complaints at the store regarding poor data speed or dropped calls
can often be traced to planning and coverage gaps.

● Store-Level Processes (Part 1)

SIM Activation & KYC

Document verification, SIM provisioning, MSISDN assignment, and system activation.

Regulatory compliance is crucial.

Observations: Accurate KYC ensures smooth activation without delays.

● Plan Explanation & Upselling

Prepaid vs postpaid, data packs, OTT subscriptions, family/combo plans.

Customer guidance improves satisfaction and increases plan adoption.

Observations: Explaining benefits clearly encourages customers to upgrade or

choose additional services.

● Store-Level Processes

Device Demonstration & Troubleshooting

Setup email accounts, APN configuration, VoLTE/VoWiFi, MyJio apps.

Helps customers understand device and network usage.

● Handling Complaints & Escalations

Common issues: poor signal, slow data, SIM errors, billing problems.
Procedure: Initial troubleshooting at store → Escalate to technical support if
unresolved.

Observation: Quick resolution enhances customer satisfaction and reduces repeat

complaints.

● Practical Activities & Hands-On Learning

Assisted with customer onboarding and KYC verification.

Configured devices with APN, VoLTE/VoWiFi, and Jio apps.

Monitored activation status through OSS/BSS dashboards.

Logged recurring network issues for reporting and analysis.

Learned soft skills: communication,

documentation, and time management.

● Case Studies / Real Examples

Case 1: Slow internet speed due to device not supporting carrier aggregation.

Solution: Device upgrade or advise Wi-Fi usage.

Case 2: Port-in activation delay due to mismatched KYC documents.

Solution: Coordinated with backend and expedited activation.

Case 3: Customer complaint of HD call drops.

Analysis: Poor VoLTE coverage in area.

Solution: Explained temporary workaround and submitted feedback for network

optimization.
