BASIC FORMATTING
ACTIVITY
1. Start Word, create a new document and save as W4 – FirstName_LastName_Last 4 Digits (Schoology
Number) in your CSWP 010 folder.
2. In the HOME tab, click the Paragraph dialog box launcher and set the paragraph spacing to zero
and line spacing to Single.
3. In the Paragraph group, click on the Show/Hide button to show paragraph marks. Use paragraph
marks as a guide to start a new line.
4. Type the text as shown below:
PLUTO IS NOT A PLANET¶
Pluto was reclassified from a planet to a "dwarf planet" in 2006 by the International Astronomical
Union (IAU). This decision was based on a new definition of what constitutes a planet. ¶
Planet Criteria¶
The IAU's definition states that a planet must meet three criteria: ¶
Orbit the Sun: The object must be in orbit around the Sun. ¶
Sufficient Mass for a Nearly Round Shape: The object must have sufficient mass for its self-gravity to
overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a nearly round shape. ¶
Cleared the Neighborhood Around Its Orbit: The object must have cleared the neighborhood around
its orbit, meaning it must be gravitationally dominant, and there should be no other bodies of
comparable size other than its moons or those otherwise under its gravitational influence in its
vicinity. ¶

While Pluto meets the first two criteria, it does not meet the third. Pluto shares its orbital zone with
other objects in the Kuiper Belt, a region of the Solar System beyond Neptune filled with small icy
bodies. Because it has not cleared its orbit of other debris, the IAU reclassified Pluto as a dwarf
planet. ¶

Charon: Approximately 1,212 kilometers diameter, mass (1.5897 0.0045) x 1021 kg¶
Nix: Approximately 49.8 kilometers diameter, mass (2.60 0.52) x 1016 kg¶
Hydra: Approximately 50.9 kilometers diameter, mass (3.01 0.30) x 1016 kg¶
Kerberos: Approximately 19 kilometers diameter, mass 1.65 x 1016 kg¶
Styx: Approximately 16 kilometers diameter, mass of 7.5 x 1015 kg¶

6. Bold the first words before the full colon : for the IAU's three criteria for a planet.
7. Bold each of the moon names: Charon, Nix, Hydra, Kerberos and Styx.

8. For each of the moons, change the last 2 digits before the "kg" to superscript (shown in green
below).
9. For the first 3 moons in the list, insert the special character for "plus-minus" ± (code 00B1) within the
mass values (shown in yellow below).

10. Type the following text and special characters /ˈpluːtoʊ/ (codes ː 02D0 and ʊ 028A) so the first line
reads "Pluto /ˈpluːtoʊ/ was reclassified from a planet…"
11. Go to the VIEW tab, and in the Show group, make sure that the Ruler checkbox.
12. Select all text in the document, and in the HOME tab, click on the Paragraph Settings dialog box
launcher , and then on the Tabs button . Set a tab stop position of 0.2” with Left
alignment.
13. Indent all paragraphs, and all of the Pluto moons. Don't indent the heading or titles.
14. On the LAYOUT tab, go to the Page Setup group, use the Margins drop-down list and select Normal
to set the margin size to 1”.
15. In the DESIGN tab, insert a Confidential 1 watermark. Customize the watermark and change the text
to "PLUTO – DRAFT".
16. Insert a Blank (Three Columns) header and type your Name, Course - Section, and Date.

17. In the footer section, click the Page Number drop-down list , choose Bottom of Page, and
then Plain Number 3 format.
18. Compare your document to the Week 4 Basic Formatting – Final [Link] and save all changes.
