Unplugging from the Glass Cage

The poem 'The Glass Cage' by RoshiAishu explores the impact of technology on human connection and the importance of balancing digital engagement with real-life experiences. It highlights how screens can create a false sense of connection while distancing us from genuine emotions and the beauty of the world around us. Title: “The Glass Cage”

By: RoshiAishu

(Speaker 1)
“The Glass Cage” by RoshiAishu

Behind the glass we laugh and play,

A tiny world just one swipe away,
Our fingers dance, our eyes are glued,
But silence wraps the crowded room.

(Speaker 2)
The sky still sings, the rivers glide,
But we scroll past the world outside,
The stars once watched with open eyes,
Now dim beneath our glowing ties.

(Speaker 1)
We text “I’m fine” with distant hands,
While meaning sinks like desert sands,
The voice once warm now fades to grey,
In emoji chains we throw away.

(Speaker 2)
We snap the meals, we stage the scene,
But live a life stuck in between,
A pixel world of polished grace,
That rarely shows the real face.

(Speaker 1)
A gadget bright—a shining toy,
It offers light, it offers joy,
But like a cage with golden bars,
It dims our minds and hides the stars.

(Speaker 2)
We post our smiles, our perfect days,
While real emotions fade and haze,
We chase for views, for hearts, for fame,
Yet deep inside, we feel the same.

(Speaker 1)
The laughter shared across a field,
Now traded for the screen we wield,
Where every like becomes a chain,
And peace is lost in silent strain.

(Speaker 2)
A child once ran through fields of green,
Now stares into a bright-lit screen,
"Just five more minutes," we all say,
And miss the magic of today.

(Speaker 1)
But gadgets too, can light the way,
If used with thought, not thrown astray,
A map, a book, a voice, a spark,
To guide us safely through the dark.

(Speaker 2)
Let’s teach our hearts to press “pause” too,
To feel the breeze, the morning dew,
Let tech assist, not lead our soul,
Let balance be our final goal.

(Together – rising tone, powerful)

We hold the key, we choose the path,
To build with screens, or feel their wrath,
Let’s not be trapped in blinking lies,
Let’s lift our heads—and see the skies.

(Speaker 1)
The glass may shine, but we must choose…
To guard our time, not let it bruise.

(Speaker 2)
To use it well, not live to lose,
To walk away, when moments bruise.

(Speaker 1)
We are the masters, not the screen,
We choose what’s true, and what has been,
Let’s not forget to look around,
The real world waits without a sound.

(Together – soft and reflective)

Unplug the cage, unlock your fate,
For life is more than what we update.
Step out, look up, before too late.

Together: Thank you
