Lab 10 ELO Mapping

(Ubuntu 20.04)

ELO Touch Screen Models and Technologies

Projected Capacitive Type

Projected capacitive technology PCAP touch screen software is typically used in smart phones and tablets but can also be
used for much larger screens.
It works through the use of a conductive grid that recognizes changes in its electromagnetic field by the touch of your
finger.
Projected capacitive technology enables touches to be sensed through a protective layer in front of a display, allowing
touch monitors to be installed behind store windows or vandal-resistant glass.
Projected capacitive technology PCAP touch screen and controller provide increased levels of reliability and longer life
expectancy, resulting in a drift-free response and a low-maintenance unit that requires no recalibration.
Ubuntu 20.04 does not require ELO touchscreen driver installation; built-in generic driver is capable of handling touch
inputs.

Setup: How to map the touchscreen input to the video output.

Let’s assume 2x ELO touchscreens and a non-touch monitor connected to Ubuntu 20.04.

Section 1 must be completed:

Adding EloMapping to Startup script

Section 2 may be completed if section1 has been done but issues occur and troubleshooting needs to be done.
Run EloMapping Tool via command line for troubleshooting or testing

Section 1: Adding EloMapping to Startup script

1. Copy EloMapping_v.[Link] file from USB to documents folder on Ubuntu PC.

Right click on EloMapping_v.[Link] and click Extract Here.

8. Add the following contents to the “Add Startup Program”

• Under Name: simply type “ELO Mapping” to identify the configuration.

• Under Command: simply paste the information you got in step4 and see next step to identify the proper suffix
numbers (which will map your 2x ELO displays to your 2x USB outputs)

Or … /home/YourUbuntuPC_name/Documents/EloMapping_v1.1/EloMapping 0:1 1:2

o The last portion “0:1 1:2” maps your 2x USB ports to your 2x ELO screens.
The first digit around each colon identifies the USB (0 and 1).
The second digit identifies the ELO display (1 and 2).

Find the display configuration in Ubuntu “Settings” under “Displays”.

Use the display number found in “Displays” to fill in the second number.
You will end up with a mapping such as 0:1 1:2, or 0:2 1:1, or 0:1 1:3, …

Add Ubuntu Setting displays screenshot over here…

o Under Comment: simply type “Elo Mapping”, as Generic description for identification

• Note: Some Station configurations may only have 1 touchscreen display.

then the second set of colon is not required.
The example below would result with the following
o /home/ YourUbuntuPC_name /Documents/EloMapping_v1.1/EloMapping 0:2

9. Click on “Add” when the above information are properly written.

10. Once it is added successfully, close the below window and
reboot your Linux (Ubuntu) PC to enable and configure your touchscreens from next startup onwards.
This may need a few trial and errors to identify the right combination: 0:1 1:2, or 0:2 1:1, or 0:1 1:3, …

11. Upon startup of the PC, verify touch is in the correct spot.
If the touchscreen is not in the correct spot, run the EloMapping tool via command line
or modify again the 0:1 and 1:2 video selection in the startup process as explained earlier and restart the PC.

Section 2: Run EloMapping tool via command line for TSG or Test

1. Locate the “EloMapping_v1.1” application icon from the previous section

2. Open Terminal application by shortcut: Control+Alt+T on the keyboard

3. Drag the “EloMapping_v1.1” icon into terminal and press enter to get following screen (or similar):

4. At the first prompt enter the display number you want to map USB 0 port.
At the second prompt enter the display number you want to map to USB 1 port.
If unsure, test a display selection (blue indicates user input)
a. Please enter the Video number the USB will map to
For USB #0, enter the mapping video #: -> 2
For USB #1, enter the mapping video #: -> 1

5. Test the touchscreen by providing touch inputs.

a. If only 1 touchscreen gets properly mapped but you need 2 touchscreens mapped,
then Check the following
i. USB is properly connected at PC
ii. Visually check the ELO screen has a USB connected at the back of the TV
iii. Ubuntu Updates have been recently completed

b. If the touchscreen mapping is on the wrong monitor, repeat steps 1-4 again.
Vary the user inputs on step 4a.

6. Remember the working selection made.

For example, if you first typed 3 then 1., then the resulting startup command would be 0:3 1:1.
Modify the startup command if needed.
