Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC)
A typical dual-chamber MFC consists of two main compartments, separated by an Ion Exchange
Membrane (IEM). These compartments are the anode chamber and the cathode chamber.

2. Cathode Chamber
3. Ion Exchange Membrane (IEM)
4. External Circuit
2. Rainwater Harvesting System
The system is designed to efficiently collect, filter, and store rainwater from the hub's building rooftops
and potentially from surrounding houses.

2. Gutters and Downspouts
3. First-Flush Diverter
4. Coarse Filter
5. Fine Filter
6. Storage Tank
7. Overhead Tank
3. Nature-Based Water Purification System
This natural purification system consists of a constructed wetland and a bio-filter that will provide the
final stage of purification for the pre-treated wastewater from the MFC and the collected rainwater.
1. Waterproof Basin
2. Multi-layered Substrate: The basin is filled with several layers of different materials, which
perform the main filtration function. The layers are the following:
1. Coarse Gravel Layer
2. Sand Layer
3. Organic Matter Layer
3. Wetland Plants
4. Water Flow System
4. Community-Led Kiosk and Sanitation Facility
The kiosk and sanitation block, integrated into a single building at the hub, are designed for accessibility,
hygiene, and community management.
1. Central Building
2. Water Kiosk Section: A designated counter or booth within the building houses the water
distribution system. This is where purified water from the hub's storage tank is dispensed.

2) Water Vending Mechanism
3. Sanitation Block: A separate, connected section of the building contains the latrines.
