PART A

1. State and explain Kirchhoff’s laws.


2. Find V1, V2 and V3 using voltage division rule.

Ans: V1= 2.5 V, V2 = 5 V, V3 = 7.5 V


3. Find I1, I2 and I3 using current division rule.

Ans: I1= 19.1 A, I2 = 9.55 A, I3 = 6.35 A

4. Three resistors 10Ω, 20Ω and 40Ω are connected in star configuration. Obtain the equivalent delta
configuration. Ans: 35 Ω, 70 Ω, 140 Ω

5. Three resistors 8Ω, 6Ω and 4Ω are connected in delta configuration. Obtain the equivalent star
configuration. Ans: 2.67 Ω, 1.78 Ω, 1.33 Ω

6. Draw the V-I characteristics of (i) Resistor (ii) Inductor and (iii) Capacitor.
7. Derive an expression for energy stored in an inductor.
8. Derive an expression for energy stored in a capacitor.

PART B

1. Find the equivalent resistance between X and Y.

Ans: 6.85 Ω
2. Determine the mesh currents i1, i2, and i3 by performing Mesh analysis.
Ans: i1= 1A, i2= 2A, i3= 3A

3. Determine the current flowing through 20Ω resistance using Mesh analysis.

Ans: Convert the current source into its equivalent voltage source and
proceed. I1= 1.94 A, I2= -1.6 A, I3= - 4.23 A, I20 Ω= 3.54A

4. Determine the voltage across 5Ω resistance using Nodal analysis.

Ans: V1= 9.09 V, V2= 10.91 V, V5Ω= V1= 9.09 V

5. Find the node voltages using Nodal analysis.

Ans: V1= 45.45 V, V2= 72.73 V, V3= 27.27 V
