1. Object-
To test acidic or basic solution by the help of litmus.
2. Material required-
Blue litmus paper ,red litmus paper, lemon juice baking soda solution.
3. Procedure- take a small amount of lemon juice solution and baking soda solution which
is to be tested by litmus paper.
A) dip a piece of litmus paper into the both the solution
B) dip a piece of red litmus paper into both the solution.
4. Observation -
A) if blue litmus paper turns red the solution is acidic,
B) if red litmus paper turns blue the solution is basic.
C) if neither paper change the colour the both the solution is neutral
5. Result-
The red litmus paper turns into blue in baking soda solution thus the baking soda is basic
in nature.
The blue litmus paper turns into red colour in lemon juice the lemon juice is acidic in
nature.
6. Precautions-
A) prevent splashes of chemical
B) avoid skin contact with acids
C) wear gloves to protect your hand.
