 PROJECT

Step 1: Problem description

The school generated a significant amount of waste, including:

 500 kg of paper waste per week
 200 kg of food waste per week
 100 kg of plastic waste per week
 50 kg of glass waste per week

The school's current waste management practices are inadequate, with :

 limited recycling facilities.
 Insufficient waste sorting and segregation.
 Over reliance on landfill disposal .
 lack of education and awareness among students and staff.

As a result, the school faces problems with:

 Overflowing trash cans and litter
 Unpleasant odors and unsanitary conditions.
 Pest and vermin infestations
Environmental and health concerns.

How I intent to solve the problem

1. Educating and engaging the school community is a crucial step in promoting proper waste
management practices and keeping the school .

For students
 Waste management workshops: Organizing hands-on workshops where students can learn
about proper waste sorting, recycling and disposal practices.
 Environmental clubs:Establishing environmental clubs where students can participate in
clean-up initiatives, recycling drives and other eco-friendly activities
 Classroom presentations: Inviting guest speakers or show educational of videos to
teach students about the importance of proper waste management and its impact on the
ennvironment.

For staff and students

 Waste management training: Providing training on proper waste management
practices including recycling and compositing
 Staff environmental committee: Establishing a staff environmental committe to promote
Eco-friendly practices and provide a forum for discussing environmental concerns
 Incentives for sustainable practices: Offering incentives for staff and teachers who adopt
sustainable practices, such as reducing energy consumption or using public transportation
For teachers and community
 Parent-teacher association(PTA) involvement: Engaging with the PTA promote environmental
awareness and involve parents in school cleanup initiatives
 Community clean up events : Organizing community cleanup events where parents ,
students and teachers can work together to keep the school and surrounding community
clean
 Environmental newsletter: Publishing environmental newsletters to keep the parents and
the community informed about the school environmental initiatives and achievements
WASTE REDUCTION STRATEGIES
 Reduce paper usage: Transition to digital documents, reports and communication
 Use of reusable products: Promote the use of reusable bags, containers, water bottles and
lunch boxes
 Avoid single-use plastics : Discourage the Single-use plastics such as straws, cutlery and bags
 Choose products with minimal packaging : Opt for products with minimal or biodegradable
packaging
