Veterinary Medical Conversion Chart

Weight Conversions
1 kg = 2.2 lb
1 lb = 0.45 kg
1 g = 1000 mg
1 mg = 1000 µg
1 µg (mcg) = 0.001 mg
1 grain = 64.8 mg
1 oz (ounce) = 28.35 g

Fluid Conversions
1 mL = 1 cc
1 L (liter) = 1000 mL
1 tsp (teaspoon) = 5 mL
1 tbsp (tablespoon) = 15 mL
1 oz (fluid) = 30 mL
1 cup = 240 mL
1 pint = 480 mL
1 quart = 960 mL
1 gallon = 3.785 L

Dosage & Concentration Conversions

% Solution = g per 100 mL (e.g., 2% lidocaine = 20 mg/mL)
mg/kg = Common dosing unit in veterinary medicine
mEq = milliequivalents; used in fluids/electrolytes
1 IU (insulin) = ~0.0347 mg (species-specific)

Temperature Conversions
°C to °F: (°C × 1.8) + 32 = °F
°F to °C: (°F - 32) ÷ 1.8 = °C

Example Dosage Calculation

If a medication is dosed at 5 mg/kg and the dog weighs 22 lb:
1. Convert weight: 22 lb ÷ 2.2 = 10 kg
2. Calculate dose: 5 mg × 10 kg = 50 mg
