The pie chart illustrates the percentage of different types of courses which is followed by student in the
year of 1984, 1994 and 2004.

Overall, the data reveals a clear shift in student preferences from traditional learning methods to more
modern and technology-based approaches over the 20-year period. While face-to-face were dominant
in the year of 1984, there popularity steadily decreased by the year of 2004. In contrast, mixed media
and online courses gained significant traction, reflecting the growing importance of flexible and digital
learning format.

In 1984, face-to-face courses were preferred by the majority which was chosen by more than half of
students ( 67 % ). However, in 1994, this figure declined to 54% indicating a decline in traditional
learning preference. And in the end of period, this traditional preference become less common which
reach its lowest peak.

Mixed media courses increased significantly from 13% in 1984 to 35% in 2004, becoming nearly as
popular as face-to-face learning. By 1994, online courses first appeared and regarding about 11
percentage of students, correspondence courses maintained a steady share at 20%, mixed media
courses increased to 15%. At the end of period, correspondence courses fell down to 15% while the
mixed media courses grew as twice as correspondence, which recorded as 35%. Online courses also saw
an increase, reaching 10%.

PROCESS

The diagram shows the way of making instant noodles in the factory. There are several steps from flour
storage to packaging.

First, the flour is stored in silos. Then it is moved to the mixing machine where water and oil are added
to make dough. After that, the dough is rolled into sheets by rollers.

Next, the dough sheets are cut into strips and shaped into noodle discs. The noodle discs are cooked in
oil and then dried. After drying, they are put into cups. Later, vegetables and spices are added to the
cups. Finally, the cups are sealed and packed.

Overall, the process is linear and includes many steps. It starts with flour and finishes with packed
instant noodles.

MIXED

The bar chart compares the proportion of people using four kinds of transport in a European city in 1990
and 2010, while the pie chart shows the reasons for choosing public transport in 2010.

Overall, public transport became more popular over the period, while the use of private cars decreased.
The most common reason for choosing public transport in 2010 was convenience.

In 1990, car users accounted for about 45%, the highest among all types. However, in 2010, this figure
fell to around 30%. Bus usage rose from about 25% to 35%, becoming the most used in 2010. Train and
bicycle percentages also increased slightly, from around 15% to about 20% each.
According to the pie chart, in 2010, 40% of people said they used public transport because it was
convenient. Another 25% mentioned cost-effectiveness. 20% chose it because of environmental
reasons, and 15% because of speed.

Some people think that governments should invest more in public transportation instead of building
new roads.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Public transportation is an essential part of modern cities. While some argue that governments should
allocate more funds to building new roads, I believe that investing in public transport systems brings
greater long-term benefits and should be prioritized.

One key reason to focus on public transport is that it helps reduce traffic congestion. In many large
cities, roads are already overcrowded, and adding more roads only encourages people to use private
vehicles, which can worsen the problem in the long run. In contrast, improving buses, trains, and
subways offers a more sustainable solution, as it can reduce the number of cars on the road and
encourage people to switch to more efficient modes of travel.

Another important factor is the environmental impact. Transportation is a major source of pollution, and
expanding road networks can lead to increased carbon emissions. Public transportation, especially when
powered by electricity or renewable energy, is generally more eco-friendly. For example, electric trains
produce far fewer emissions than hundreds of cars on a highway, making them a better choice for long-
term sustainability.

However, it is also true that some roads may need improvement, especially in rural or developing areas
where public transport is not widely available. Therefore, while roads should not be ignored completely,
the priority should be to modernize and expand public transportation systems in urban areas.

In conclusion, although some investment in roads is necessary, I strongly believe that governments
should focus more on improving public transportation to reduce traffic, lower pollution, and create
more efficient cities.

EDUCATION

Education plays a crucial role in shaping a child’s future, and there has long been debate about whether
schools should concentrate on academic subjects or give more attention to practical skills. While some
believe that a strong academic foundation is essential, others argue that schools should prioritize hands-
on abilities that prepare students for real-world challenges. This essay will discuss both perspectives
before presenting my own view.

On one hand, academic subjects such as mathematics, science, and literature are considered
fundamental for intellectual development. These subjects provide students with critical thinking,
analytical, and problem-solving skills, which are valuable in both higher education and many careers. For
instance, students who aim to become doctors, engineers, or researchers must build strong academic
knowledge before pursuing further qualifications. Moreover, academic achievements are often used as
a benchmark for university admission, making them a key factor in long-term success.

On the other hand, practical skills such as cooking, financial management, or basic technical training are
increasingly important in modern life. Many students graduate with excellent academic records but
struggle with everyday tasks like managing a budget or fixing a broken appliance. By incorporating life
skills into the curriculum, schools can help students become more independent and better prepared for
adulthood. In addition, some careers—like carpentry, plumbing, or digital media production—rely
heavily on hands-on abilities rather than theoretical knowledge.

In my opinion, a balanced approach is the most beneficial. Academic subjects should remain a core part
of the curriculum, but they should be complemented by practical skills that equip students for daily life
and a wider range of job opportunities. A well-rounded education not only enhances career prospects
but also promotes personal growth and resilience.

TECHNOLOGY
Nowadays, many people use social media as their main source of news. Do you think the advantages
outweigh the disadvantages?
In recent years, social media platforms have become a primary source of news for many people around
the world. While this shift offers several advantages such as convenience and real-time updates, I
believe the disadvantages, particularly the spread of misinformation and lack of credibility, outweigh the
benefits.

On the one hand, getting news through social media is fast, accessible, and often free. Unlike traditional
newspapers or TV channels, social media allows users to stay informed anytime, anywhere, simply by
checking their phones. Furthermore, platforms like Twitter or Facebook provide real-time updates,
enabling people to receive breaking news as events unfold. For individuals with busy lifestyles, this
method of consuming news is highly convenient and time-efficient.

However, the disadvantages of relying on social media for news are significant. One major concern is the
lack of reliability. Many posts are not fact-checked or come from unofficial sources, leading to the
spread of fake news and misleading information. This can create confusion, panic, or even harm public
opinion and behavior, especially during crises like a pandemic or election. Additionally, social media
algorithms tend to show users content that aligns with their views, which may limit exposure to diverse
perspectives and encourage echo chambers.

In my opinion, although social media makes news more accessible, the risks associated with
misinformation and biased content are more serious. News should be accurate, balanced, and credible
—qualities that are often missing on social platforms. Therefore, while social media can supplement
traditional sources, it should not be the primary channel for news consumption.

WORK LIFE

Some people think success is determined by hard work, while others believe factors like money and
appearance are more important. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Success is often seen as the result of various contributing factors, and people hold different opinions
about what plays the most crucial role. While some argue that hard work is the key to success, others
believe that external elements such as wealth and physical appearance are more influential. This essay
will explore both perspectives before presenting my own opinion.

On one hand, hard work is widely regarded as a fundamental driver of success. Many successful
individuals—whether in business, sports, or academics—attribute their achievements to persistence,
dedication, and long hours of effort. Hard work not only helps people overcome obstacles but also
builds resilience and discipline. For example, entrepreneurs who start with limited resources can still
build thriving businesses through consistent effort and innovation. In this view, success is earned
through merit and determination.

On the other hand, some believe that success is often shaped by factors beyond one’s control, such as
money or physical appearance. Wealth can provide access to better education, powerful networks, and
opportunities that others may not have. Likewise, in certain industries like entertainment or fashion,
physical appearance can significantly affect one’s chances of success. These advantages may allow
individuals to progress more easily than those who rely solely on effort. Critics of the "hard work"
narrative argue that talent and effort alone are not always enough in a world where inequality exists.

In my opinion, while money and appearance may offer certain advantages, hard work remains the most
reliable path to lasting success. External factors might help someone achieve short-term recognition, but
without effort and perseverance, that success is unlikely to be sustained. True success is usually the
result of consistent work, learning from failure, and personal growth.

Student preferences shifted significantly from traditional face-to-face courses, which dominated in 1984 with 67% of students, to more modern and flexible course formats like mixed media and online courses by 2004. Face-to-face courses dropped in popularity, whereas mixed media courses increased from 13% in 1984 to 35% in 2004, and online courses emerged and increased to 10% by 2004. This suggests a trend towards digital and flexible learning solutions which could indicate a recognition of the benefits of technology in education and a response to a need for more adaptable learning conditions .

A balanced curriculum offering both academic subjects and practical skills aligns with the diverse needs of students by equipping them with critical thinking abilities and the practical knowledge necessary for real-world challenges. Academic subjects lay the groundwork for intellectual development and are essential for many professional careers, while practical skills foster independence and readiness for daily life and vocational opportunities. Such an integrated approach ensures students are not only prepared for higher education and traditional employment paths but also adaptable to varied personal and professional circumstances .

The primary benefits of using social media as a news source are convenience and real-time updates, making news accessible and quick to consume. However, these advantages are outweighed by significant drawbacks such as the prevalence of misinformation and lack of credibility, with posts often unverified and from non-official sources. This can lead to the spread of false information and biased perspectives due to algorithms creating echo chambers. Hence, while fast and convenient, the risks associated with misinformation and biased content suggest social media should not be the primary news channel .
