Problem Based Lesson Plan in Science 2
Grade Level: Grade 2 Quarter: 1st
Performance Task: The school playground is filled with trash after a weekend event. The
principal asks the Grade 2 class to help clean up the playground and sort the waste properly.
Students must work together to identify the types of waste (recyclable, biodegradable, non-
biodegradable), sort the waste into designated bins, and come up with a plan to reduce waste in
future events.
Topic: Waste Segregation
1. Learning Objectives Learners will be able to:
Cognitive: The student will be able to
understand the different types of waste
(biodegradable, non-biodegradable,
recyclable).
Psychomotor: The student will be able to
segregate waste into different categories
(biodegradable, non-biodegradable,
recyclable).
Affective: The student will be able to
demonstrate responsibility in keeping the
environment clean.
2. Learning Materials Learning Materials for my lesson plan:
Flashcards or pictures of waste items
Color-coded waste bins (recyclable,
biodegradable, non-biodegradable)
Actual sample waste (cleaned for safety,
e.g., bottles, papers, leaves, plastic
wrappers)
Chart or poster for the “Waste Reduction
Plan”
Technology tools I will need to create the
pre-class learning materials:
Laptop/Tablet
Projector/TV screen for showing videos
Internet access for short educational video
clips on waste segregation
Presentation software (e.g.,
PowerPoint/Canva)
3. Task Problem: The school playground is filled
with trash after a weekend event, and students
need to help clean it up, sort the waste, and
suggest ways to reduce waste in the future.
Learner Task:
Work in groups to collect trash around the
playground.
Identify the types of waste
(biodegradable, non-biodegradable,
recyclable).
Sort the trash into designated bins.
Brainstorm and present a simple “Waste
Reduction Plan” for future school events.
