Entebbe Urban Planning & Solar Panel Optimization

The Entebbe Municipal council is planning a new neighborhood with roads and a community center, requiring calculations for road lengths, slopes, intersections, and optimal community center location. A gardener is enclosing a triangular plot of land and a construction company is building ramps, necessitating calculations for side lengths, angles of inclination, and dimensions. The Uganda Roads Authority is studying traffic patterns on the Kampala-Jinja highway, focusing on traffic density and speed maximization, while a renewable energy company is determining optimal solar panel installation angles using mathematical equations.

ITEM ONE

The Entebbe Municipal council is planning to develop a new neighborhood with road residential areas
and community center. The planning department uses the coordinate system where each units
represents 100 M . An Urban planner needs to design the road network and determine optimal locations
for key facilities. Road A is planned to connect points A( 2, 3) and B ( 8 , 15 ) and another road B will
connect points C ( 4 , 5 ) and D ( 12, 9 )

Tasks ;

a) Help the Urban planner to determine.

i) The length of road Ain kilometers

ii) The slope of road A and the equation that models the path of the road

b) Establish whether the two roads A and B intersect and if so at what point and angle between the two
points to the nearest degree.

c) If a community center needs to be located at a point that is equal distant from a point A , B and C .
Find the coordinates of this point.

ITEM TWO;a) A gardener enclose a triangular plot of land by using an existing hedge of length 16 m for
one side and fencing of total length of 20 m for the other two sides .

Task; if the area of the plot is 24√4 m² , find the length of the sides of the triangular plots.

b) A construction company is building a ramp to make a building accessible. Two ramps are used to
move from one floor to another. The ramps are constructed in such a way their is no gap left between
them and are joined by a square horizontal slap at their ends. Each ramp raises vertically along the width
of the building and at inclination X to the horizontal and has the width of 2m . The company uses the
function f( x) to determine the angle of inclination. The function f(x) is equal to the sum of three times
cosine of the angle of inclination and square root of 3 times sine of angle of inclination.

Task ;

Determine the

a) Angle of inclination of the ramp to the horizontal if it is equal to a tenth of the angle for which f(x) is
maximum

b) The height between the two adjacent ramps if it is equal to a fifth of the maximum value

c)The dimensions of the slab used to join the ramps .

d) The width of the room assuming the thickness of the wall is negligible

e) values of x for which f( x ) is zero

ITEM THREE

The Uganda roads Authority UNRA is studying traffic patterns in the Kampala - Jinja highway. They have
developed a mathematical model to predict traffic density at different times of the day. The density
function at time t hours after 6 : 00Am is given by

Task; As a traffic engineer , you need to analyse this model for effective future traffic mornitoring.

a) represent the model as sum of partial fractions

b) find the time at which the traffic is at minimum

c)if the average speed v(t) is related to the traffic density by the equation v(t) = 80/D(t), determine the
time of the day when the speed is maximized.

ITEM FOUR

A renewable energy company is installing solar panels on a building in tororo district. To maximize
energy collection, they need to determine optimal installation angles based on the buildings orientation
and sun's position. The company engineers found out the follow equations

a) for a triangular solar panel ABC, (a + b )tan( A- B)/2 = ( a - b )Cot(c/2)

b) for any definitely shaped solar panel , tan( 45⁰ + A ) = ( 1 + tan A )/( 1- tanA)

c)tan A + tan B + tan C = tanAtanBtanC if A + B + C = π

Task;

Help the manager of the company to justify the above mathematical statements.
