Some people believe that school children should not be given homework by their

teachers, whereas others argue that homework plays an important role in the
education of children. What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing
homework?
Education is considered the foundation of both individual and social progress, playing a vital role in
shaping the future of each person as well as the whole community. While some parents argue that
children should not be given any homework, others hold the opposite view. This essay will discuss
both perspectives before presenting my own opinion.
Homework has long been regarded as an effective way to sharpen students’ cognitive abilities.
Undoubtedly, completing tasks at home helps young learners practice and strengthen what they have
learned at school. However, some people see it as a drawback because they believe it prevents children
from spending time on extracurricular activities, which are often only available after school hours.
Many parents even view these activities as career-related for their children, wishing them to focus on
such skills from an early stage. For instance, numerous athletes started training in their chosen sport
during childhood instead of spending much time on schoolwork.
On the other hand, many people believe that homework plays a crucial role in children’s education.
Doing exercises without a teacher’s support at home enhances critical thinking and problem-solving
skills. Moreover, when students are able to complete assignments successfully, they often gain a sense
of accomplishment that motivates them to study harder. Research has shown that students who
consistently finish their homework are more likely to achieve higher academic performance compared
to those who neglect it. Thus, homework can be seen as a positive influence on children’s learning
outcomes.
In conclusion, homework has always been an important component of the school curriculum.
Although modern society offers many opportunities for children to pursue sports and other fields as
careers, I firmly believe that homework should remain in the educational system because it develops
essential cognitive skills. Parents should also recognize its importance and encourage their children to
balance study with extracurricular activities.
