Seismic Load Analysis for 12-Story Building

The document outlines the calculations and design requirements for a 12-story office building to withstand seismic loads, including base shear, load distribution, and wall design. It provides specific data such as material properties, dimensions, and load factors, and presents a detailed solution for determining the structural integrity of the building. The calculations involve determining the overturning moment, eccentricity of lateral loads, and designing the walls to meet safety standards under seismic conditions.

Example – Lateral Loads

Figure 1 shows the floor plan of a 12 story office building (ts=220 mm, FC + Partitions =
4kN/m2, LL=3 kN/m2) It is required to:
• Calculate the base shear for the building due to seismic loads
• Distribute the loads in elevation over the floors and calculate the overturning moment
• Calculate the eccentricity of the lateral load and distribute the base shear over the
walls
• Design wall (W) under seismic loads
