Collaborative Group Activity: The Journey of Food

The Journey of Food: A Collaborative Digestive Map

Strategy Used

Materials Needed
• Manila paper or cartolina
• Cutouts/pictures of digestive organs
• Markers, scissors, glue, tape
• Reference materials (Science book or module)

Procedure
Step 1 – Group Formation
- Divide the class into 6 groups.
- Each group will take one part of the digestive system to research and present:

1. Mouth and Teeth


2. Esophagus
3. Stomach
4. Small Intestine
5. Large Intestine
6. Anus and Elimination

Step 2 – Research and Discussion (Collaborative Work)


- Each group collaborates to discuss:
• Function of their assigned organ.
• Process of digestion occurring in that part.
• Type of digestion (mechanical or chemical).
• Interesting facts or health tips related to that organ.

Step 3 – Jigsaw Sharing


- After each group becomes an “expert” in their assigned organ, students form new mixed
groups (1 member from each original group).
- In these new groups, students take turns teaching each other about their assigned organ.

Step 4 – Group Output


- Return to original groups.
- Create a Digestive Process Map Poster showing the journey of food, labeling each organ
and its function.
- Include arrows to show the direction of food movement.
- Add creative illustrations.

Step 5 – Presentation
- Each group presents their poster to the class for 2–3 minutes.
- Other groups can ask questions to promote peer learning.
