Detailed Lesson Plan in mathematics 1

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students in grade 1 are expected
to;
a. Identify the two basic mathematical operations.
b. Show appreciation using addition and subtraction in their daily
life.
c. Solve the basic mathematical operation.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

a. Topic: Addition and Subtraction
b. References: Mathematics for everyday use book – page 34 – 36
c. Materials: Visual aids, pictures, puzzle, balloons

III. PROCEDURE

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY PUPIL’S ACTIVITY

A. Preliminary Activities

a. Prayer

Let us bow our Angel of God my gurdian dear to

heads as we pray (the whom God’s love commits me
teacher calls a student to here. Even this day be at my
lead the prayer) side to light and guard, to rule
and guide. Amen
b. Greetings

Good Morning Class!

Good Morning teacher!

Before you sit,please

kindly pick up the pieces of the
paper under your chairs (Done picking up the pieces of
paper under their chairs)

c. Checking of
Attendance

Before we proceed to our

lesson, the secretary will
report the attendance for
this morning.
(the secretary report)
Ms. Secretary please take
charge

d. Energizer

(video presentation)

e. Classroom
Management

But before we start

to tackle our next
lesson I have
classroom rules for
you to be able to
follow it.

1. Always listen
2. Do your task
3. Sit nicely Yes ,teacher.
4. Raise your hand
5. Respect your teacher
6. Be quiet

Do you understand
class?

f. Review of the Past Yes teacher.

Lesson

Class before we start to our

lesson for today, let us have
some recap on what we discuss
last meeting About Addition of Two One- digit
Numbers with Sums up to 18
Did you still remember our topic Using the Order to Zero
last meeting class? Property of Addition.

Okay Very good.

What is our topic all about?

Very good! Class

(the students will participate
the game)
g.) Motivation

The teacher will group the

students into two (2). The
students will play “booty spell”.
Each group needs four (4)
members who will pick a piece
of paper that contains a word
that will be spell using their
butts while the remaining
members will guess the word
being spelled.

Each group will be given two(2)

minutes to spell the word as
many as they can. If they are (the students will keep quiet
finished, they need to do the and take their seats)
“mommy donisya” clap pattern.

The fastest group that can finish

the task is considered as
winners and will receive a
special prize.

Teacher , its about math

Okay class, thank you for your
cooperation.
We hope that everyone enjoyed
the game.
You may now keep quite and
take a seat.
It’s because of the operation
that was mentioned during the
game
B. Lesson
Proper/Discussion

Okay class, based on the game Teacher ,addition(plus)

that we played , what have you
noticed?
Subtraction(minus), teacher
Okay! That’s right.
Why do you think it’s about
math?

Teacher , I think our topic for

Very good! today is about Addition and
What are those operations? Subtraction

Correct! What else?

Very good! Add,teacher

So now class, who has an idea

what is our topic for today? Plus ,teacher

Very good!
So ,class our topic for today is
about Addition and Subtraction

First is Addition(plus+)
Class what comes into your
mind when you heard the word
Addition?

That’s right,what else?

Balloons, teacher
Very good!

So class Addition is a
mathematical operation that Three (3) balloons,
explains the total amount of Teacher
objects when they are put
together in a collection.

To make it simple, we use plus

sign in addition, because Two (2) balloons, teacher
addition is putting numbers
together

Okay, I will now give you an

example, (the teacher will show
the balloons to the class)

Class, what is this?

Yes teacher
Correct! These are the balloons
How many balloons are there?

Nine (9) teacher

Very good! There are three (3)
balloons
How about here, on the other
side?

Excellent class!

Since we are adding two sets of Minus, teacher

objects together, we are going
to use the plus(+) sign.

So, 3 balloons + 2 balloons = 5

balloons.
Did you get it class? (the student will point the minus
sign paste on the board)

Okay, another example is, I have

here 4 lollipops on my hand, and
5 lollipops on my other hand,
how many lollipops are there?

Very good!

Since you already got it fast,

let’s now proceed to Subtraction

Class, do you have any idea

what is subtraction?

Correct! Minus is also a term

used in subtracting numbers

What do you think is the symbol

used in subtraction? Who can
point it on the board?

Very good!
Subtraction is the opposite of
addition. If the addition is
putting numbers together,
subtraction is taking away the
numbers.

Subtraction is used when you Three (3) balloons, teacher

want to know how many objects
are left in the group after you
take away a certain amount of Yes, teacher
objective from the group.

We used the minus(-) sign in the Sure, teacher

subtraction

For example
(the teacher will show again the
balloons to the class)

Class, earlier the sum that we

got from adding the balloons is
five (5). Here are the five (5)
balloons and then, I decided to
pop the two balloons(2)

Class, to know the answer, we

will subtract the two balloons
(2) from the five(5) balloons.
5
So, 5 balloons – 2 balloons is 7
equal to how many balloons 1
1
Correct! The answer is 3 5
balloons

Did you understand it now

class?

Are you sure?

Since you already got it, let’s

now have our group activity

C. Application

The teacher will group the

students into three (3). The
students will be going to
arrange the mathematical Yes, teacher
equation puzzle and solve for
the answers for five (5) minutes.
The first group that can finish Addition and Subtraction,
the activity needs to do teacher
“mommy donisya” clap to be
recognized.

Here is the mathematical

equation (the student will write the (+)
2+3= plus sign
3+4=
2–1=
5–4= (the student will write the (-)
7–2= minus sign

D. Generalization

Class, did you learn a lot

today? 6
3
1
5
Again, what is our topic? 5

Can you write here on the board

the sign used in addition?

Correct! What about the sign

used in subtraction?

Very good!

But why do we need to know

how to solve addition and
subtraction equations?

Yes, that’s right. All your

answer is correct

Since, you already understand

and you really learned a lot
today, we will be having our
short quiz

IV. EVALUATION

Direction: Solve the

following mathematical
equations.
1. 3 + 3 =
2. 5 – 2 =
3. 4 – 3 =
4. 6 – 1 =
5. 2 + 3 =

V. ASSIGNMENT
Direction: On your math book copy and answer p. 55 in your
notebook.
