Flowering Plant Life Cycle Explained

The life cycle of flowering plants consists of three main stages: seed, young plant, and adult plant. Germination, requiring water and the right temperature, allows seeds to develop into young plants, which then grow into adult plants under suitable conditions. Adult plants reproduce through pollination and fertilization, leading to the formation of fruits and seeds.

▪ For a seed to develop into a young plant, the seeds go through a process
known as germination.

▪ Following factors are needed for germination.

• Water
• Right temperature

From a young plant to an adult plant.

▪ With the right conditions and nutrients, a young plant will develop and grow
into an adult plant.

From an adult plant to a seed.

▪ In adult plants, reproduction takes place in the flowers.

▪ After reproduction, flowers develop into fruits and seeds.
▪ There are two steps that happens during reproduction.
1. Pollination
2. Fertilisation
Pollination
▪ Transfer of pollen grains from the male part of a flower to the female part of a
flower of the same species is pollination.
▪ There are three ways of pollination:
1. Through wind
2. By small animals
3. Insects
Fertilisation
▪ It is the process where a pollen grain meets with an egg in the ovary before
forming fruit and seeds.
▪ After Fertilisation the ovary turns into a fruit while egg develops into a seed.
