This asynchronous home learning task is designed to ensure continuity of learning during class suspensions. It aims to help students stay

Learning illustrate and estimate the area of a square or rectangle using square tile units.

Topic: Area of a Square or Rectangle

Discussion:

What is Area?
Imagine you're covering a floor with square tiles. The area tells you how many tiles you
need to cover the whole floor. It's the amount of space inside a shape. We measure
area in square units, like square centimeters or square inches.

Rectangles:
A rectangle is a shape with four sides and four right angles (like the corners of a book).
Opposite sides of a rectangle are always equal in length.

To find the area of a rectangle, we multiply its length by its width.

Formula: Area = Length × Width

Example:

Let's say we have a rectangle that is 5 centimeters long and 3 centimeters wide.

Area = 5 cm × 3 cm = 15 square centimeters

So, it would take 15 square centimeter tiles to cover this rectangle.

Squares:
A square is a special type of rectangle where all four sides are equal in length.

To find the area of a square, we multiply the length of one side by itself (because all
sides are the same!).

Formula: Area = Side × Side or Area = Side² (Side squared)

HOME LEARNING TASK

Let's say we have a square with sides of 4 inches.

Area = 4 inches × 4 inches = 16 square inches

It would take 16 square inch tiles to cover this square.

Activity: Copy and answer on your math notebook. Finding the area of square and rectangle using the square
tile unit.
