Statement of Purpose

Self-introduction and family background

My name is Diya Benny, an Indian citizen coming from Kottayam, Kerala, born on 31st
January 2000, and holding the passport number S2034764. I am living in a family of four which
includes my father, mother and my brother. I am applying to pursue the Master of Teaching
(Early Childhood) at Griffith University with a planned intake in February 2026.

Motive behind shifting from Social Work to Teaching (Early Childhood)

I have completed a number of internships over the last two years, four of which were required
for my academic program and three of which I pursued on my own during breaks, giving me
invaluable practical experience. Many of these opportunities required me to work closely with
children in a variety of learning settings, using inclusive, dynamic, and engaging techniques to
support their early development. I got deeply passionate about fostering young minds as a result
of these experiences, and I realized that working in early childhood education is not only a
career but also a fulfilling route where I can have a long-lasting impact. Since I have always
wanted to pursue an international program, being heavily involved in child-centered
environments motivated me to think on my role in assisting children in creating a better future.
I firmly think I can be the one to provide the foundation for children in need, acting as a
stepping stone for their academic path. This insight confirmed my choice to formally seek a
career in early childhood education, where I can make a significant impact on young children's
learning, growth, and wellbeing.

Brief History about My Academics and Career

I pursued Master of Social Work (MSW) with a specialization in Community Development at

Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), Bangalore, from 2022 to 2024. I completed the program
with distinction, achieving a GPA of 7.6. Throughout my studies, I engaged in both academic
research and practical fieldwork, which helped me develop a strong understanding of social
welfare and community-based interventions. Prior to my postgraduate studies, I earned
Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature from St. Albert’s College
(Autonomous), Ernakulam, affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University. I graduated in 2021
with distinction, maintaining a GPA of 7.6. My academic foundation was laid during my
secondary education, where I completed my 12th grade at Emmanuel’s Higher Secondary
School, Kothanalloor, in 2018, securing 93%, followed by 10th grade at St. Agnes GHS,
Muttuchira, in 2016 with a full A+ grade. During my postgraduate course, I actively engaged
in both academic and extracurricular roles. I served as the department newspaper editor,
conducted life skills mentoring sessions for children, and was involved in various child safety
and community-based initiatives. As part of my academic contributions, I presented a research
paper titled "Environmental Peacebuilding in Conflict Resolution" at an international
conference. I also contributed a chapter to the book "Voices in Action: Case Studies of
Successful Social Transformation" (ISBN: 978-81-19521-63-0), showcasing grassroots social
interventions and their broader implications.
My professional journey reflects my commitment to working with children, communities, and
education-focused development. Over the past two years, I have worked with seven different
organizations, five of which directly involved teaching or mentoring children up to the age of
14, especially from underprivileged backgrounds and early childhood settings in the slums of
Bangalore. I began my career as a Project Executive at Social Bee Ventures, Ernakulam, where
I coordinated district-level social innovation projects, handled documentation, and helped
organize a national Social Innovation Summit. After that, from Feb 2025 mid to May 2025
mid, I was doing IELTS preparation at Godspeed Lingo Academy. Now I am waiting for my
IELTS Exam and I believe that by completing the exam I will have global recognition and will
be skilled with better language fluency and will be filled with confidence. It will be useful for
my future endeavours. In my academic break between 2021 and 2022, I worked as a PR Intern
at Om Siddh Vinayak Impex Pvt. Ltd., assisting with press releases, event coordination, and
public outreach initiatives, further refining my communication and organizational skills.
At Bangalore Oniyavara Seva Coota (BOSCO), I worked with the Child Welfare Committee
and participated in child rescue operations, while also tutoring children in shelter homes—
many of whom were previously on the streets. These sessions deepened my understanding of
how education can be a healing force for vulnerable children. At SOS Children’s Village India,
Bengaluru, I was actively involved in academic mentoring and tutoring, especially for children
in early and middle childhood. My time at Ashalaya Trust, Bengaluru, was especially
formative. I worked with migrant children from ragpicker communities, offering teaching
support across eight Early Learning Centres in rural and semi-urban areas. I also assisted with
documentation, child progress reporting, and community outreach focused on child rights and
educational inclusion. I also completed a 30-day internship with KITES India Foundation,
where I engaged in grassroots project documentation, social media outreach, and volunteer
coordination under the VolunteerGram initiative. Lastly, at Ernakulam Social Service Society
(ESSS), I contributed to community development in the coastal belt of Kochi, participating in
sustainable development initiatives and field-level monitoring, also by mentoring for
awareness classes for gender sensitization on school level.

The Main Objective for Studying Master of Teaching (Early Childhood)

The early years are foundational in shaping a child's cognitive, emotional, and social
development. As someone who has worked closely with children from slum communities,
migrant families, and institutional care homes, I have witnessed how timely educational
support can drastically influence a child’s life trajectory. I want to be part of that critical
intervention. Not as a social worker on the margins but as an educator at the centre. Pursuing
this qualification is a conscious shift toward becoming a professionally trained early childhood
teacher who brings both compassion and evidence-based teaching practices to the classroom.

Why not study in your home country?

Indian institute and universities do not provide appropriate facilities and practical
infrastructure, whereas Australian Universities and education sector have completely advance
and world level infrastructure to support pupils so people can get both practical as well as
theoretical sound knowledge. I also did check on other countries like US, UK, Canada but
because the weather condition is not suitable as well as the tuition fees are on higher side. The
course content is also very small and there is not much practical knowledge and facility
available.

Griffith University’s strong commitment to equity, innovation, and community impact makes
it the ideal environment for my professional growth as a future educator. Ranked among the top

national system and is highly distinctive. Australian universities are well-known throughout the world
for their instruction and quality, and they consistently rank among the top universities in the world.
Furthermore, the Australian educational system and standards combine the most recent customs with
traditional ones. I am sure that studying in Australia will help me develop my career to the fullest.

The Weather Condition and Environment

Australia is very beautiful country specially the climate is similar to my hometown and remains pleasant
and comfortable to body. It also consists of beautiful landscape with minimal light pollution, low
humidity, vivid sunsets, clear horizons, and exceptional visibility.

Health & Safety

I chose Australia as my study destination primarily because of the government's commitment to

providing international students with total safety. For overseas students in particular, the Australian
educational system has a rich and well-known history. The Australian educational system affordably
and economically creates a cosmopolitan atmosphere. All of the students enjoy studying in this
environmentally friendly and sustainable environment.

Future Plans after returning to Home Country

I am confident and sure that the Master of Teaching in early childhood will enrich me with skills and
knowledge that are effective in working with children. I am confident that University of Griffith’s

center that incorporates the best teaching methods and practices I learned at Griffith. My goal is to
create a nurturing and innovative learning environment that reflects international standards while being
culturally rooted, allowing me to stay close to my family and community. Through the course, I will
attain insights and methodologies which will not be available through the traditional education in India.
I promise that I will pursue my education with the highest sincerity, perseverance, and dedication.
Therefore, I kindly request Australian high commission to give admission and permit for studying in
Australia so that I can fulfil my dreams and career aspirations.

Thanking you in advance for spending time and concentration.

Thanks & Best Regards,

Diya Benny
