Acknowledgement
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Duroply Industries Limited for offering
me the opportunity to undertake this enriching internship project. My heartfelt thanks go
to my mentors SRC Sir, Mausam Sir, and Pradip Sir for their unwavering support,
guidance, and mentorship. Their feedback and direction played a vital role in the
successful execution of the project.
I am also thankful to the sales team, backend support staff, and the IT department, whose
inputs were essential in understanding the core challenges faced on the ground. This
internship has helped bridge my classroom knowledge with practical, real-world
application
Introduction
Internships are designed to provide real-world exposure to MBA students and allow them
to apply business and technical knowledge to solve practical problems. During my
internship with Duroply Industries Limited, I was assigned the task of improving key
internal operations through a mobile-first digital solution.
This report elaborates on the development of the DURO Mobile App, a tool designed to
digitize the internal discount approval workflow and centralize customer data access. The
report further discusses the business challenges that inspired the project, the methodology
adopted to build the solution, my key contributions, and the outcomes achieved.
Importance and Background of the Project
In an organization like Duroply, which manages a large customer base and decentralized
sales force, efficient internal processes are critical to maintaining a competitive edge.
Traditionally, discount requests were handled manually through email or phone calls,
making them slow and difficult to track. Similarly, field executives often lacked visibility
into customer credit and invoice data, which impacted sales conversions and service
quality.
The need for a centralized, digital system was apparent. By digitizing these two crucial
areas—discount approvals and customer data access—the DURO App aimed to:
• Eliminate manual errors and approval delays
• Improve response time between field teams and managers
• Enhance transparency and traceability of discount requests
• Provide sales staff with quick, mobile access to reliable customer data
Problem Statement
Duroply Industries Limited, operating in a sales-driven, customer-intensive environment,
relied on a manual discount approval process which involved email chains and
telephonic communication. This process led to:
• Frequent delays in approvals
• Lack of transparency and traceability
• Repeated follow-ups between field executives and approvers
• Inaccessibility of updated customer financial and transactional data during field
visits
• Inefficient communication across hierarchy levels
These challenges directly impacted response times, decision-making accuracy, and
ultimately, customer satisfaction. A digitally enabled internal system was imperative to
streamline the workflow and empower field teams with real-time insights.
Solution Developed
To address these bottlenecks, I designed and developed a mobile-first application —
DURO App — a digital platform to:
• Automate the discount request and approval workflow
• Digitize customer data access for field and backend teams
• Enforce role-based access control aligned with the organizational hierarchy
• Provide real-time updates and traceability for each approval token
• Improve operational efficiency through mobile accessibility and data
centralization
The solution was implemented using a full-stack architecture: React Native (frontend),
[Link] & [Link] (backend), and MongoDB (database), integrated with JWT-based
secure login.
Key Features
The DURO App comprises two core modules:
Module 1: Discount Request Workflow
• Request submission form with prefilled employee details
• Auto-routing to designated approver based on reporting hierarchy
• Status tracking (Pending, Approved, Rejected)
• Notification and token-based traceability for all stakeholders
Module 2: Customer Dashboard
• Customer search by employee code
• Real-time display of customer credit data, invoices, payment status
• Filtered access based on roles (executives vs. managers)
Additional Functionalities
• Secure login via JWT tokens
• Optimized UI/UX for low-bandwidth regions
• Mobile-first design tailored for Android devices
Process Workflow
1. Requirement Analysis
• Collaborated with sales and IT stakeholders
• Mapped the approval process hierarchy
• Identified key KPIs: turnaround time, dependency, visibility
2. System Design (UI/UX + Architecture)
• Developed wireframes using Figma
• Created logical flow diagrams and ER models
• Role-based navigation: Requester ↔ Approver
3. Development (Agile Sprints)
• Frontend: React Native for Android UI
• Backend: [Link] APIs with MongoDB schemas
• Authentication: JWT with session control
• Tokenization logic implemented for traceability
4. Testing & Feedback
• Conducted alpha testing on Android emulator
• Collected structured mentor feedback for UI improvements
• Added error handling and dynamic validation logic
5. Deployment & Documentation
• Local deployment and test builds generated
• Created admin documentation for future integration with CRM/ERP
Key Learnings
• End-to-End App Development: Built full-stack mobile app from scratch,
integrating business logic and tech architecture
• Workflow Automation: Understood how tech can reduce operational
inefficiencies in real B2B environments
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Engaged with multiple business functions
(Sales, IT, Management)
• Strategic Thinking: Designed scalable modules for future feature integrations
(order tracking, collections)
• Client-Centric Development: Incorporated user feedback into iterative design
changes
• Technical Growth: Gained hands-on experience in React Native, [Link],
MongoDB, Postman API testing, and JWT Auth
Future Scope
The DURO App lays a solid foundation for further digitization of internal processes.
Recommended future enhancements:
• ERP/CRM Integration: Sync with SAP or Salesforce for real-time customer
updates
• Order Management Module: Add new feature for field order booking
• Push Notifications: Live alerts for status changes or escalations
• Analytics Dashboard: Visual KPI tracking for managers (approval rates, delays)
• Training Mode: Dummy data for onboarding new sales employees
• Web-based Admin Panel: For central IT control and access management
Methodology
Phase 1: Requirement Analysis
• Conducted structured sessions with mentors to understand the current process.
• Analysed the discount approval hierarchy and mapped data dependencies.
• Identified pain points like turnaround time, missed communication, and
information silos.
Phase 2: UI/UX and Architecture Design
• Created wireframes and flow diagrams for mobile screens.
• Designed a role-based navigation system: one for requesters, another for
approvers.
• Planned modular API structure for easy extension to other workflows in the
future.
Phase 3: Development
• Developed the frontend using React Native for Android support.
• Created backend APIs using [Link], integrated with MongoDB.
• Built role-based authentication using JWT (JSON Web Tokens).
• Implemented token generation for each discount request, enabling traceability.
Phase 4: Testing and Deployment
• Conducted multiple testing rounds including form validation, status updates, and
access control.
• Collected feedback from mentors and incorporated UI/UX improvements.
• Deployed on local devices and created documentation for future scalability.
Findings and Recommendations
Key Findings:
• Average approval time reduced from 2 days to under 4 hours using the DURO
App.
• Field teams were able to access critical customer data (credit limits, invoices)
within seconds.
• Managers appreciated the auto-routing of requests, which eliminated email
backlogs.
Recommendations:
• Full Deployment Across Teams: Roll out the app across all zones to maximize
impact.
• Training Sessions: Conduct in-app tutorial walkthroughs for smooth onboarding.
• Expand Features: Add order tracking, collection follow-ups, and performance
dashboards.
• Integration: Link the DURO App with ERP and CRM systems for live data sync.
Conclusion
The DURO App has proven to be an impactful internal tool that digitizes key workflows
at Duroply Industries Limited. The application removes friction from the discount
approval process and equips the salesforce with vital customer insights. From a personal
perspective, this project significantly enhanced my technical abilities, critical thinking,
and understanding of business operations in a real-world manufacturing environment.
It has been a privilege to contribute to Duroply’s digital transformation journey and to
apply my MBA learnings in a meaningful way.
