SPEAKER 5 MAN

Speaker 1: 00:00

My topic is on formal employment and family stability.

Speaker 2: 00:07

Do you have another copy so that I can easily. So should this not be?

Speaker 1: 00:19

Yeah, my supervisor suggested that I should also interview married men. So get their basket.

Speaker 2: 00:37

Okay, let me put. Yeah.

Speaker 1: 00:40

First question.

Speaker 2: 00:41

Excuse me, please.

Speaker 1: 00:00

The first question is. Do you think career women informal employment affect family stability? Do you
think career informal employment affects family stability?

Speaker 2

00:58

Yes, I think it does.

Speaker 1

00:59

I think it is. Why do you think married women work so you all.

Speaker 2

01:06

1
For various reasons. One is to also attain the personal ambition and good she's able to fend for their
family members. Those who are the own personal family members. Yeah, I think.

Speaker 1

01:23

Next question. Do you think married women should engage in full time employment?

Speaker 2

01:29

No, I think.

Speaker 1

01:31

Okay. What do you think are the implications of not spending time with children?

Speaker 2

01:37

The imp are numerous. One is in terms of your children's company. Two is in terms of their involvement
in their social life, which of course ultimately affects their later years. When these parents grow old, there
seem to be a disconnect between the parents and the kids. When the parents need the kid the most, they
are often absent. Right. And then not being around nursing employers, it affects their moral impertinence
in terms of their moral upbringing, moralities and values. Of course, in today's world it is clear that in
society those who have been, how do I put it? Issues from that segment have now cropped up in society.
You know, the ferments were creating society, find them doing informal jobs, find them criminals. And so
it shows the impact of parental involvement, children's lives. Okay, thank you.

Speaker 1

02:49

Do cultural or religious expectations conflicts with women's career ambitions?

Speaker 2

02:55

Yes, of course it does. Because let me start from the later point. It the Buddhist perspective, Islam is of the
view that women are meant to stay at home. Right. And that men are their protectors. Whatever they
need, rest solely on men or on men's shoulders. Right. And they should be cared for, catered for and they

2
should not go to any stress whatsoever. Right? Uhhuh. Then. Although it does not mean that women
cannot work, right. But it's advised that women if they can work at home, it is not to fail you. And of
course, when that age that supports such profession work online and they would earn more than those
who work, you know, the physical mode, women work in banks and other places. People who work online
still earn more than those who work physically.

Speaker 2

03:56

So, so I saw, I, I, I am a strong adherence to the fact that women should work from home. Right. From
just perspective. The other one is the culture, is.

Speaker 1

04:09

It for cultural, religious expectations? Yes, do you believe society judges career women more harshly than
men is similar rules?

Speaker 2

04:23

Yes, I think that for in fact people feel that women who are successful in their career rules did not emerge
to that level. On, on. On a mutual level. Police feel that they must have compromised on their dignity
whatsoever. So we are this stereotype believe that when a woman grows old or when she exceeds
institution in her career, it is because she must have compromised one front or the other. So I think that it
is very possible for women to grow without any support just as many aspects to also grow.

Speaker 1

05:10

What are the responsibilities of married women to the family in your religion?

Speaker 2

05:18

So in Islam women Malibu women are expected to take care of the family, take care see to the children's
upbringing. In fact, scholars that we have today that have played crucial role in Islamic knowledge were
raised by women. I'll give you an example. We have Imam Bukhari, who is known to have compiled the
hadith that Muslims refers today in the Prophet was raised by in fact the haddad was blind. It was the
mom that taught him all indebted before he became. So women play crucial role in children's open game.
And when. When they are absent, there's always a gap in society. I'm sure that if you know where by your

3
mom, my own, they would not be here. I'll play ball, I would do all of things. I'll play psi. I will beat me
and beat me.

Speaker 2

06:27

And today I feel that yes, if were she not there, perhaps I not be. So women play a crucial role in ensuring
that take care of the kids and the husband. Very, very important. Both both food wise and in the other
room.

Speaker 1

06:46

The next question is what do you think are the popular impressions of career women by society?

Speaker 2

06:53

One is that they are proud, they are egoistic, they are too domineering, they do not have compassion.
Because there's this general rhetoric that when a woman is placed as a boss should always be too over
domineering, she will lack empathy. Unlike when men take leadership roles. Right. And I think there are
cases that have also validate these claims in terms of how women have been able to how they are fed in
terms of leadership rules. So we believe that generally we do that women tend to the power tends to
consume them more than men. That's what I feel decided that our society views women.

Speaker 1

07:45

How has.

Speaker 2

07:46

How.

Speaker 1

07:48

How has your spouse's role as a career woman influenced decision making within your family?

Speaker 2

4
07:56

So my spouse is not a career woman. My spouse works online, she's comfortable, she earns so she's able
to strike a balance between our work and maintaining our kitchen.

Speaker 1

08:16

Okay, last question. In what ways does your workplace support or hinder career women's efforts to
balance family life?

Speaker 2

08:26

Well, I would say that where I work has been quite generous to women in terms of how flexible the work
life is. I mean, as a lecturer, you can resume at any point in time. You so do fit where you don't have any
pending cases. So it allows you to resume to work at your own preferred time and close as when you do
fit. Right. Even those who do not work formally in this university who are trainers and the likes from your
own place here, when they resume us early as 9, as early as 12. Again, once they are done cleaning the
offices, they can go home, you know, go to tend to their own businesses, their own kids and family
members. So this workplace generally affords women the opportunity to balance their work and life
expectations.

Speaker 1

09:27

Okay, sir, welcome. Thank you, sir.

SPEAKER 6 WOMAN

Speaker 1

00:02

My topic is on formal employment and family stability among career women. The first wait. Formal
employment and family stability among career women.

Speaker 1

00:28

Okay.

5
Speaker 1

00:29

So the first question is, do you think your job affects quality time with your family?

Speaker 2

00:40

I don't think my job has affected my family because I gave birth early. As the mother, I give it early. So
why they are going to scour my business really affect them.

Speaker 1

00:55

How has your employment affected your marital satisfaction?

Speaker 2

01:05

My employment?

Speaker 1

01:06

Yes. How has it affected your marital satisfaction?

Speaker 2

01:14

Because I set boundaries for my family and my workers.

Speaker 1

01:19

Okay.

Speaker 2

01:20

6
I set boundary. There's a limit to where they can go. There's limits to what I can tell them to do. So I
basically I know most of the things so I don't get them involved. My family issue or getting too close. I
set boundaries.

Speaker 2

01:34

Okay, next question. Do you experience challenges balancing your job and family life? .

Speaker 3

02:19

Like I said, my kids are in boarding school. They're in boarding school.

Speaker 1

02:23

Yeah.

Speaker 2

02:24

So it gives you sensible business doesn't affect me at all.

Speaker 1

02:28

Okay.

Speaker 1

02:29

Describe any major challenges you face as a career woman in balancing work and family life.

Speaker 2

02:42

I think where the problem is this at times when there is no mobility. Like mobile. If you're not on mobile,
like you don't have a car.

Speaker 1

7
02:51

Yes.

Speaker 2

02:52

So you don't want to start carrying your children around jumping bus. Just leave the child with your
parents.

Speaker 1

02:59

Okay.

Speaker 2

03:00

Leave my child to my parents and I'll go school on weekends. My workplace is nearby so it doesn't stress
me. But when I want to take the child to school sometimes is stressful. So I set time. I, My cooking is
once in a week. I don't cook all the time. So whenever they want to eat, there's always food in the fridge
for them to eat. Thats if they're around. And when I get back I go to bring my children, my child back
home. So it’s like that, they can even bring my child for me to my house because my workplace is nearby.

Speaker 1

03:50

Okay.

Speaker 1

03:50

The next question is how do you manage conflict as a result of work related issues with your spouse?

Speaker 3

04:05

My spouse goes to work in the morning and I go to work too very early.

Speaker 1

04:10

8
Yes.

Speaker 3

04:11

I'm always back before he comes back from work.

Speaker 1

04:14

Okay.

Speaker 2

04:15

If I'm at Home I've prepared the food. Because my workplace is nearby, I prepare the food. So whenever I
come, there's only food for him. We don't have conflict in terms of maybe, “why didn’t you go to market,
“Why are you coming late?”. A matter of timing. Myself, when I get back from work, I immediately head
out for the market so it doesn't disturb.

Speaker 1

04:40

Okay, Okay.

Speaker 1

04:42

The next question is. Does your employment ever cause tension in your marriage or relationship?

Speaker 2

04:52

No, It doesn’t.

Speaker 1

04:54

What strategies help you manage your work and family responsibilities?

Speaker 2

9
05:04

Like I said, it is timing.

Speaker 1

05:06

Yes.

Speaker 2

05:06

I wake up, I have a washing machine. I wash my clothes very early. While it’s washing the clothes, I'm
taking care of the kids. They're having their baths.

Speaker 1

05:15

Yes.

Speaker 2

05:15

I've already prepared my food a day before. So once the kids are going to school, my spouse is going to
work. I drop off the kids and then I head off to [Link] like I said, it is just timing. It is just timing.

Speaker 1

05:33

Okay, next question is. Does your spouse support your career?

Speaker 2

05:44

A bit not, I’ll not say 100% I’ll just say 50%.

Speaker 1

05:51

What advice would you give to your younger women trying to build careers while maintaining stable
family lives?

10
Speaker 2

06:03

Said if you are young and you want to build your career. If you are. If you have a child at the same time
want to start business career it is very good except you have a second hand like somebody to assist. Like
somebody that assist you. But if there's that can assist you can get yourself, you can be on the move. So
like I said, time yourself wake up by 4. Do skills husband is going to work on you are going to school.
Okay, it's time for the child to resume school. It's just matter of time waking up early. Do the necessary
before serving your house ready before it's just matter of if you decide to get was my house girl. Okay, so
young couples or young ladies are trying to come to do whatever I want to do. Just time yourself.

Speaker 1

07:15

Okay.

Speaker 2

07:17

If this school fine if it's full time. If it's full, that means you're taking your child to the school. Maybe you
have to come up with your child. But if this time there you can have time for yourself. So I always advise
part time. For young ladies that are coming up that just go always applied part time it is easier for them to
run the family. They are doing part time study. If you are doing full time study, it's only difficult because
of the children's advice. Part time study is better. You wake up early then take it off from there.

Speaker 1

07:51

Okay, then the last question.

Speaker 2

07:55

Have you ever felt pressure to choose between career advancement and family responsibilities?

Speaker 3

08:09

Like I said, it can be. It's an individual interest. It has never occurred to me.

Speaker 1

11
08:27

Okay.

Speaker 2

08:28

To me.

Speaker 1

08:30

Okay, that's all. That concludes the interview. Thank you very much.

SPEAKER 7 WOMAN

Speaker 1: 00:00

I have just 10 questions for you as a career woman.

Speaker 2: 00:05

Okay.

Speaker 1: 00:06

The first question is do you think your job affects quality time with your family, your children and your
husband?

Speaker 2: 00:17

Well, not really. Everything depends on planning. Not really.

Speaker 3: 00:26

Okay.

Speaker 1: 00:27

So the second question is how has your employment affected your marital satisfaction?

12
Speaker 2: 00:39

Well, you know, I can't really say it is affecting it except for sometimes when you need to deliver on
some pressing jobs. Yes, Ma, that's not really affected. It's not negatively like that. Like that. There are
some few itches, but not bad.

Speaker 1: 01:03

Yes.

Speaker 2: 01:05

Okay.

Speaker 3: 01:05

Okay.

Speaker 1: 01:06

The third question is, do you experience challenges balancing your job and family life?

Speaker 2: 01:14

Yes, there's. There are challenges all interfere with the other. But with a lot of hindsight and a lot of
balancing, one was able to at least do something about it.

Speaker 3: 01:36

Yes. Okay.

Speaker 1: 01:38

The next question is describe any major challenges you face as a career woman in balancing work and
family life.

Speaker 2: 01:56

The major problem really is sometimes when the job, when you come back from the office, you
sometimes feel tired, you want to rest, but at the same time you need to take care of the family. Family
fund.

Speaker 1: 02:17

Yes.

Speaker 2: 02:18

13
Where you don't have somebody that is assisting you at home, it could be. It could be the. The pressure
could be much.

Speaker 1: 02:26

Yes.

Speaker 2: 02:27

But situation where you have people at home that assists, it's sometimes better. Sometimes when you
don't have somebody that assists you at home, it can be very challenging.

Speaker 1: 02:44

Okay.

Speaker 1: 02:44

The next question is how do you manage conflicts as a result of work related issues with your spouse?

Speaker 2: 02:54

That one is as a career woman that you know you might need to travel, you are. You must be able to
multitask.

Speaker 1: 03:03

Yes.

Speaker 2: 03:04

When situation like that arises, you need to employ a lot of patience, lot of tolerance. You need to look at
things from your spouse's point of view. I believe that with lot of patience there is nothing that you cannot
achieve. Just to be patient. And when is a bit calm, you can always sit down and talk about it. Everybody
will know where areas that are, areas that they have aged and make amendments.

Speaker 1: 03:38

Okay.

Speaker 1: 03:41

The next question is, does your employment ever cause tension in your marriage or relationship?

Speaker 2: 03:50

No. I don't see why? I don't see any tension in my part. Don't think so.

14
Speaker 1: 03:59

Okay.

Speaker 1: 04:01

What strategies help you manage your work and family responsibilities?

Speaker 2: 04:07

Everything depends on planning. You make sure you allocate time for everything.

Speaker 1: 04:12

Yes.

Speaker 2: 04:13

You should be able to know when it is time to manage your home. Let's let the work stay and when you
are in the office, give it the right attention.

Speaker 1: 04:26

Yes ma.

Speaker 2: 04:26

So that there won't be spillover that will affect your home.

Speaker 1: 04:31

Yes, okay.

Speaker 1: 04:32

Does your spouse support your career?

Speaker 2: 04:39

Yes, he does.

Speaker 3: 04:42

Okay.

Speaker 1: 04:43

15
What advice would you. You give to younger women trying to build careers while maintaining stable
family lives?

Speaker 2: 04:51

Yes, they should look, they should be very patient and they should ensure that any man they want to
marry must share their vision, must be able to encourage them, and the person must be the share
somebody that will be glad for them that they are progressing. They should be conscious of toxic people. I
don't really want their partner to go so that they will not fall victim of a. A partner that is always very sad
when they are progressing.

Speaker 1: 05:31

Okay, last question is. Have you ever felt pressure to choose between career advancement and family
responsibilities?

Speaker 2: 05:42

Hello. I didn’t get that.

Speaker 3: 05:44

Okay.

Speaker 1: 05:45

Have you ever felt pressure to choose between career advancement and family responsibilities?

Speaker 2: 05:54

No.

Speaker 3: 05:55

Okay.

Speaker 2: 05:56

The. I don't. I don't. The only time I had such thing was when I was writing my professional exams. And
since I could not and I need to write professional exams, I need to take care of my family. So for some
time I had to let go of the professional exams. So when my children were growing and I had more time on
my hands, I went back and I took the exams and I was fine.

Speaker 1: 06:25

Excellent.

Speaker 1: 06:26

16
Okay, that will conclude the interview session. Thank you very much, Ma.

SPEAKER 8 WOMAN

Speaker 1

So the. The topic is on formal employment and family stability among career women. The first question
is, do you think your job affects quality time with your family, your children and your husband?

Speaker 2

00:21

Not really. Because of my kind of job? Not really. Yes.

Speaker 1

00:27

Okay.

Speaker 1

00:28

How high?

Speaker 1

00:31

Okay.

Speaker 2

00:32

Specifically.

Speaker 3

00:33

Okay.

Speaker 2

17
00:34

Because I work with the Military. So not really.

Speaker 1

00:36

Okay.

Speaker 2

00:38

I close on time.

Speaker 1

00:39

Okay.

Speaker 2

00:40

I close by four.

Speaker 1

00:42

Okay.

Speaker 2

00:43

So that I think that's the advantage.

Speaker 1

00:45

Okay.

Speaker 1

18
00:47

How has your employment affected your marital satisfaction?

Speaker 2

01:28

I think the only challenges I'm having is my kids because I don't have anyone assisting me.

Speaker 1

01:36

Yes, ma'.

Speaker 2

01:37

Am. So once they close on time by, let me say three o'. Clock.

Speaker 1

01:40

Yes.

Speaker 2

01:42

By four.

Speaker 1

01:42

Yes.

Speaker 2

01:43

Because there's no other persons to pick them except me or the father.

Speaker 1

19
01:46

Yes, sir.

Speaker 2

01:47

Then that's where sometimes I have challenges. So I have to go before four and all that.

Speaker 1

01:52

Okay.

02:18

Yes, the children.

Speaker 2

02:20

The children is the only challenge I have. The only challenge.

Speaker 1

02:29

How do you manage conflict as a result of work related issues with your spouse?

Speaker 2

02:37

So we do have conflict sometimes on the aspect of these children because sometimes he will not be
available. Like you know, last week I have a training on Monday I have a training. My training finish five.

Speaker 1

02:58

Yes, ma.

Speaker 2

02:59

He didn't tell me that you will not be willing to able to pick them.

Speaker 1

03:03

Yes, ma.

Speaker 2

03:03

He now left the children till 5 o'. Clock, People that close by 3.

Speaker 1

21
03:08

Yes, ma.

Speaker 2

03:08

I have to call somebody to go and pick them.

Speaker 1

03:11

Yes.

Speaker 2

03:12

From their school for me. Yes. So I think we have a little back and forth.

Speaker 1

03:16

Okay.

Speaker 1

03:19

Does your employment ever cause tension in your marriage or relationship?

Speaker 2

03:27

Employment causing tension? No, no.

Speaker 1

03:30

Okay.

Speaker 1

22
03:32

What strategies help you manage your work and family responsibilities?

Speaker 2

03:47

I do it like during the weekdays at night. Majorly.

Speaker 1

03:51

Yes.

Speaker 2

03:54

Like washing.

Speaker 1

04:06

The next question is, does your spouse support your career?

Speaker 2

04:11

Yes.

Speaker 1

23
04:14

The next question is, what advice would you give to younger women trying to build careers while
