Strategy formulation in Marketing Strategy development: Emerging Trends

Introduction

In today’s competitive and dynamic business environment, effective marketing strategy

formulation is essential for achieving sustainable growth and maintaining relevance. When

considering budget and audience reach, online marketing tactics are often viewed as the most

effective. Although it is still used, traditional marketing is very expensive. Traditional marketing

is recommended when the goal is to reach a broader audience across all age groups and financial

constraints are not a concern (Bashar et al., 2024). Digital marketing tactics and platforms can

yield a higher return on investment when funding is limited and the target demographic is well

educated and has an online presence. Businesses can quickly evaluate customer activity and spot

trends in search and consumption thanks to artificial intelligence. This enables marketers to

swiftly and effectively modify their approach.

Recently, MasterCard used a Facebook Messenger bot to automate payments and assess

customer preferences using natural language processing. Even at a small scale, businesses must

continuously gather market and customer data in order to stay abreast of how markets are

changing and to be ready to adjust as soon as feasible. Continuous research and development

activities must be conducted in accordance with market insights to guarantee that companies can

respond to shifting trends with the precise product or service requirement in order to be prepared

to adapt (Cillo & Rubera, 2024). The major purpose of this research paper is to discuss three of

the most significant trends that are reshaping world of marketing. It aims at examining how these

trends are changing the process of developing marketing strategies and how businesses can

incorporate them into their business strategic plans in order to enjoy success in the long-term.

Literature Review

The current marketing strategy development is based on the following fundamental

concepts: STP model (Segmentation, Targeting and Positioning), 4Ps of marketing (Product,

Price, Place and Promotion), and customer-focused marketing strategies. These models enable

the marketers to define the target audiences, differentiation of offerings and presentation of the

value propositions. Although on a small scale, the business should be replete with gathering

market and customer information continuously, in order to keep up with how markets develop

and be prepared as soon as possible to respond (Haleem et al., 2022). The STP model helps the

marketers to segment the market according to the demographic, psychographic or behavioral

characteristics, target the specific target groups, and position the products to satisfy the

requirements of each group uniquely.

Continuous research and development activities must be conducted in accordance with

market insights to guarantee that companies can respond to shifting trends with the precise

product or service requirement in order to be prepared to adapt. The most notable trend is digital

transformation, where businesses use technology to enhance customer happiness and

organizational value chains. Many companies now have virtual setups as regular practice, and

prospective employees can now choose to work remotely, from home, or in a hybrid

environment. The rise of corporate responsibility and sustainability is another trend, as customers

are unwilling to purchase goods from businesses that show little regard for the environment and

society.

A comprehensive study by Bashar et al., 2024 offers a retrospective bibliometric and data

mining analysis of studies on social media marketing conducted between 2007 and 2022.

According to their results, social media is not only a powerful marketing tool but also a
4

developing field that interacts with influencer marketing, client loyalty, behavioral intents, and

real-time interaction. Having a strong social media presence is one of the most significant

improvements that businesses can adopt (Jain & Kumar, 2024). Businesses may engage with

their customers and promote their brands by using social media sites like Facebook, Instagram,

Twitter, and YouTube. Additionally, LinkedIn is a good place for businesses to network.

Adopting new technology like voice-activated assistants like Alexa or Siri and artificial

intelligence are examples of other beneficial advances.

Current Marketing Trends

New opportunities for producing and providing value to clients may arise due to

emerging technologies. This could involve creating brand-new goods and services, providing

subscription-based business models, or investigating completely different company strategies.

By automating time-consuming and repetitive processes, emerging technologies like artificial

intelligence (AI) and robotic process automation (RPA) can free up human resources for more

innovative and strategic work (Ricardo Filipe Ramos et al., 2023).

1. Digital Transformation

Beyond simply "going digital" or "incorporating social media" into traditional marketing

initiatives, the ramifications of "digital transformation" are intricate and multifaceted. Digital

transformation is about aligning the organization, processes, and culture to support innovation

rather than just focusing on new technologies. For marketers, digital transformation is more

about new customer experiences, changing business models, and a deeper comprehension of how

consumers subconsciously react to the digital "brand touch points" that we depend on more and

more to establish and fortify relationships. Only until the proper conditions are established for
5

making tactical and strategic decisions based on high-quality data will the transformation be

possible.

2. Personalization with Artificial Intelligence

AI can be applied in a variety of ways to customize marketing campaigns and strategies.

The most significant is content personalization, where AI assists in creating tailored material

based on user interests, such as emails, suggestions, social media posts, advertisements, and web

content, among other things. AI’s ability to analyze large volumes of data allows advertisers to

target customers with similar interests or product preferences (Morgan et al., 2025). In order to

provide dynamic content personalization, personalized product recommendations, automated

email campaigns, chatbots for real-time interactions, and predictive analysis for precise

messaging and offers, artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming personalized marketing

strategies by analyzing vast amounts of data to determine individual preferences, behaviors, and

interests.

3. Sustainability

The goal of sustainable marketing is to promote goods, services, or brands in a way that

satisfies consumer demands today while maintaining the long-term well-being of the economy,

society, and environment. Creating enough high-quality content each day is a constant issue for

marketers. The question of whether the content is original is even more troubling. However, we

are all aware that content marketing benefits everyone if the posted material is sincere and

interesting, increasing brand recognition and value. Customers and businesses alike are showing

a great deal of interest in and demand for sustainability. Regulatory pressures and rising

consumer activism demand sustainable practices. Studies show that 73% of global consumers

prefer brands committed to eco-friendly initiatives, making sustainability a competitive

6

imperative for long-term brand loyalty (Nalini et al., 2021). The sustainability market continues

to grow, encompassing businesses, products, and services aimed at addressing environmental and

social concerns. In order to provide a higher standard of living for present and future generations,

sustainable marketing entails creating and advertising goods and services that satisfy the

demands of consumers and business users while properly exploiting society's natural, human,

and cultural resources.

Strategy Formulation and Response to Trends

Businesses must consider these new trends when developing their marketing strategies if

they want to remain competitive. Companies can follow a 3-Step Model: (1) Identify trends, (2)

Align strategies with market shifts, and (3) Execute and refine through continuous feedback.

This ensures agility in a dynamic environment. Businesses undergoing digital transformation

must use digital tools to rethink their client experiences. Nike, for instance, has effectively

developed a smooth Omni channel experience with its digital personalization tools, online

community, and mobile app.

Investments in data infrastructure and predictive analytics are necessary for

personalization and artificial intelligence (Ricardo Filipe Ramos et al., 2023). Spotify's highly

customized music suggestions, which are now a major component of its user interface and

advertising operations, are a prime example of this trend. To remain sustainable, businesses must

align their values with customer expectations. In order to appeal to socially concerned

consumers, Patagonia has centered their brand identity on environmental advocacy and uses

storytelling and product transparency. Similarly, Unilever’s “Sustainable Living Plan” drives
7

eco-friendly initiatives in brands like Dove and Hellmann’s, enhancing consumer loyalty and

competitive edge in the FMCG sector.

Businesses will innovate the few that are worth it and optimize almost all of them for

their core competencies and unique selling points. Innovation can push the theoretical limits of

specific products, industrial capabilities, or business models. The business's contextual

requirements serve as the foundation for strategies. It has to do with how the market is changing

due to technology, shifting demographics, consumer tastes, economic situations, social

structures, and how relevant the business is to the customer. Nevertheless, there are problems

associated with integrating these trends. AI makes personalization risky with regards to privacy,

and consumer preference. There is often significant upfront capital requirement in sustainability

projects, as well as the intricate changes in the supply chain requirements. Inward, firms should

have innovative digital skills, fluid leadership and flexible organization arrangements to effect

these changes without leaving them lean to changes in the market.

Conclusion

Over the past few years, the marketing industry has undergone significant upheaval. New

methods of doing things have been introduced by the digital age, and sophisticated marketing

techniques are no exception. The AI has enabled marketers to take their initiatives to a higher

dimension. They can employ AI to understand the preferences of their customers and gain

insights to create content that will go down well with their target audience. The advanced

marketing techniques can be categorized into two--creative and data-driven. Data-driven tactics

deliver content based on consumer data prediction. Creative-based strategies are used to create

enticing content that can influence the viewers to buy a product or service. Marketing has

progressed over the years and it has become very advanced. Due to the growth of social media
8

and digital marketing, the manner in which people lead their lives daily has been altered.

Consequently, the marketers have been forced to change their strategies in order to keep abreast

of any new developments in the current world. Brands exploit social media by strategizing

content, data analytics and others to be able to grow customer awareness levels and gain

accessibility on most platforms to generate revenue using the latest contemporary corporate

monetization practices.
