Basmati rice
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Basmati rice
- 4-5 cups water (for boiling)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
- 1 teaspoon oil or butter (optional)
Method:
- Rinse 1 cup of Basmati rice under cold water 2-3 times until the water runs clear.
- Soak the rinsed rice in water for about 15-20minutes.
- In a large pot, bring 4-5 cups of water to a boil. You want enough water to fully submerge the rice, like when
boiling pasta.
- Add 1/2 teaspoon of salt to the water.
- Drain the soaked rice and carefully add it to the boiling water.
- Let the rice cook uncovered on medium-high heat for 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Taste a few grains to check if the rice is cooked. It should be tender but still have a slight bite (al dente). If it's too
firm, cook for another 1-2 minutes.
- Once the rice is cooked, pour it into a strainer to drain the excess water.
- After straining, let the rice sit in the strainer for 1-2 minutes to allow any remaining water to drain.
- Serve hot.
