Ex 4 on pg.25. Read the text and find out what makes good manners.
Be nice. Manners are important
Manners are important. But where do we learn manners? Where do they teach manners? Can it be taught
at home only? Or can it be taught in the classroom only? Some may say there is no need for this class. But
after observing daily life of a student, it becomes obvious: young people need to be taught good manners.
They need to be nice. They need an etiquette class. It seems to be a very practical and needed subject.
It's only common courtesy to say “excuse me”. It's only common courtesy to say “please”.
It's only common courtesy to say “thank you”.
It's only common courtesy to say “You're welcome!” It's only common courtesy to flush.
It's only common courtesy to hold a door.
And, yes, it's only common courtesy to help someone who needs help.
Learn to be nice. Learn to be considerate. Being rude should not be a social norm. Things like
cleanliness and hygiene, professional courtesy and social do's and don'ts should be added to what already
has been mentioned.
So we need good manners and the social skills to succeed in real life. Being considerate, generous and
sensitive are an essence of life. The world needs more people like that.

hygiene – the rules of keeping yourself or things around you clean in order to prevent disease
generous – happy to give more help to others than usually expected
sensitive – able to understand other people's feelings and problems
succeed – to well in life.
