Read the article "Deforestation":

Deforestation is the process of removing large areas of forests for other

uses. These areas are used for agriculture or urban growth. Deforestation
has many negative effects on the environment. The effects are increasing
since it is becoming more common. There are many ways that people can
reduce their impact on the environment from deforestation. Unless people
are regularly reducing their effect on the environment, the negatives will
continue to outweigh the positives.

Farmers often reduce the number of trees on their land so that more crops
can be planted. This helps them produce and sell more crops. This is great
for farmers, but it is harmful to plants and animals in the area. Many
animals are losing their homes to deforestation. Some of these animals
are endangered, which causes them to be at an even higher risk of
extinction. Profits may be made, but at-risk animals are in danger of
becoming extinct.

Deforestation is usually planned, but at times, unplanned deforestation

can occur for a few reasons. Forest fires can cause deforestation of many
areas. These fires are hard to control and contain. Animals overgrazing is
another problem that leads to deforestation. Too many animals can impact
the growth of new trees and prevent new forests from developing.

Forests absorb greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming. If too

many trees are removed, it could speed up global warming. This affects
more than just the environment. The canopies of rain forests have a
specific use. Together, the treetops block the sun's rays, but also help
keep heat in the canopy at night. When trees are removed, the plants and
animals that live in the canopy are exposed to extreme temperatures.

Deforestation is happening at a rapid rate; however, there are ways to

help reduce the impact on the environment. If trees are removed to plant
crops, farmers can create new forest areas. Logging companies can plant
new trees where they cut down older trees. This ensures there are new
areas for plants and animals to live. This cycle can continue for many
years. Once a forest is old enough to be logged, the company can cut
down the trees and plant new ones to continue the cycle.

In summary, as long as everyone chooses to reduce their impact on the

environment, they are affecting the environment in a positive way. This
positive impact not only helps the environment, but also the wildlife living
in those areas. Deforestation does not appear to be slowing down any
time soon. With some smart planning, everyone can help reduce its global
impact.
