This highlights a significant gap in transparency practices, as the limited accessibility of financial reports can hinder the public’s ability to hold government accountable and weakens transparency efforts .
Investing in capacity building for public officials is recommended to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage public funds and implement accountability and transparency measures. This can lead to improved service delivery, enhanced governance, and reduced incidence of financial mismanagement or corruption in local government administration .
78.7% of respondents agree that transparency fosters public trust in local government. This implies that enhancing transparency in governance processes can significantly improve citizens' trust in local government, thereby leading to enhanced cooperation, compliance, and possibly greater community engagement in governance .
