1. Overview and System Composition

The RAIS100 Rudder Angle Indicator fully conforms to the technical requirements of the ISO
20673:2007.
This system is composed of one transmitter , 4 types of indicator and three types of dimmer.
The transmitter can drive eight receivers in maximums. Any types of dimmer can be con-
nected to all type of indicators.

1.1 Component Models

RAIS100 is composed following units. The units are selected for the usage.

 RAIS100 system configuration

2. Operation
This chapter describes the operation of the RAIS100 Rudder Angle Indicator.

2.1 Startup and shutdown

 RAIS100 system
The RAIS100 system does not have a power switch excluding signal converter. To start the system
up and shut it down, turn the switch of the external power source ON or OFF.
When the power source is turned on, all receivers will follow to the transmitter in a few seconds or
less.

 Signal converter (MRT500)

The signal converter (MRT500) starts when the power switch is turned on after the system is
started. Turn off the power switch to stop. Refer to figure in clause 2.3 for the position of power
switch.

2.2 Dimmer control of indicators

To change the backlight brightness, rotate the dimmer dial.
To increase the brightness, rotate to the cw.
To decrease the brightness, rotate to the ccw.

 Twin Rudder System

In twin rudder sytem the PWB([Link] BD ASSY) on the case side is for the STBD rudder,
and the door side is for the PORT rudder. The door side calculates PORT rudder angle, and sends
that data to the case side. The case side calculates STBD rudder angle, and outputs data that STBD
rudder angle and PORT rudder angle data are brought together in one.

PWB for STBD Rudder

This PWB calculates STBD rudder angle and
outputs STBD and PORT rudder angle data.

4.2.4 Signal Converter

 Adjust zero position of signal converter
Adjust zero position of signal converter by calculating of offset value.

Set the rudder to midship.

Set [MODE] switch to 3. Then, current offset value is displayed.

PORT STBD
NO YES
A current offset value is displayed.

Factory Default: 0.0°

Push [SET] switch. Then, “oFSt” is displayed and blink, and it becomes an offset calculation
waiting state.

PORT STBD
NO YES
The display blinks.

Push [SET] switch again. Then, signal converter calculate the offset value, and sets a current
rudder angle position to own zero.

Return [MODE] switch to 0 after the setting ends.

note
In the twin rudder system, PWB on the case side is for the starboard rudder, the door side is for the
port rudder. Do the same procedure to both PWBs.

4-6 < 4. Inspection, Installation and Troubleshooting >

 Filter time constant setting of signal converter

Set the time constant of the filter processing of the signal converter. When the time constant is set,
the signal converter applies the LPF to the rudder angle value and outputs that value.

Set [MODE] switch to 2. Then, current filter time constant is displayed.

PORT STBD
NO YES
A current filter time constant value is displayed.

Factory Default: 0 (Filter OFF)

Push [SET] switch. Then, it becomes a change waiting state.

PORT STBD
NO YES
The display blinks.

Select the value with [▼] and [▲] switch, push [SET] switch, and fix it.

PORT STBD
NO YES

Range:
0 (Filter OFF), 1 - 10[sec]

Return [MODE] switch to 0 after the setting ends.

note
In the twin rudder system, PWB on the case side is for the starboard rudder, the door side is for the
port rudder. Do the same procedure to both PWBs.

< [Link], Installation and Troubleshooting > 4-7
 Test output of signal converter
It is possible to output a simulated rudder angle signal for the test. The rudder angle value is replaced
with a simulated value, and status becomes “V” while testing.

Set [MODE] switch to 6. Then, it becomes a test output waiting state.

PORT STBD
NO YES
“tESt” is displayed.

Begin the test output pushing [SET] switch. The simulated rudder angle value is displayed in
the information display. Turn TEST volume and adjust the simulated rudder angle value. Re-
fer to figure in section 2.3 for the position of TEST volume.

PORT STBD The direction of the simulated rudder angle is indicated.

NO YES

The left end displays “t” that shows that it is in the

middle of the test.
A current simulated rudder angle is displayed in the
other three digits.

To return to a usual rudder angle output, push [SET] switch or change [MODE] switch exclud-
ing 6.

Return [MODE] switch to 0 after the testing ends.

note
In the twin rudder system, PWB on the case side is for the starboard rudder, the door side is for the
port rudder. Do this procedure to both PWBs when you make both port and starboard rudder angle
a simulated value.

Check the error code in the information display, and correspond referring to the paragraph of “Error
code of the signal converter”.

 Display of signal converter when error occurs

When the error occurs, error code is displayed in the information display.

PORT STBD
NO YES
The display blinks.

Refer to the paragraph of “Error code of the signal converter” for the content of the error code.

The error display is released as follows.

• When restoring it from the state of the error
• When [SET] switch is pressed

When two or more errors occur, the one with lower code number is displayed by priority.

Refer to the paragraph of “Confirm the error of signal converter” for the method of confirming a cur-
rent error that is occurring after the error display is released.

 Confirm linearizing data of the signal converter

It is possible to confirm linearizing data used to calibrate the rudder angle calculation. Linearizing
data is an amount of the error margin in each measurement point. Positive shows the error to the
direction of STBD, and negative shows the error to the direction of PORT.

Set [MODE] switch to 5, put into the state of the linearizing data display. In this mode, display
the angle of the measurement point and the error of that point alternately.
