Answers:
1) It’s a place in which the inhabitants have been created in order to gratify the desires of
‘the newcomers’. The ‘newcomers’ are people who pay to visit this world and act out all
their fantasies. The ‘newcomers’ cannot be killed in this world. The inhabitants are
programmed with specific gestures, and their memories are purged at the end of each day.
2) Because there has been some ‘unscheduled activity’. Evidently, one of the ‘creatures’
(robots) is restless. So, as a safety precaution, an armed security team go down to
investigate.
3) They find the creator of the robots talking to one of them.
4) Because some of the robots start to show ‘aberrant behaviour’. This will be difficult
because they have literally hundreds of intertwined narratives for their park.
5) He finds a photo of someone in a modern city which perplexes him.
6) Firstly, because there has been a problem recently with ‘aberrant behaviour’ and
secondly, because he thinks the guests don’t want hosts who seem ‘real’. He believes the
place works because we understand that the hosts aren’t real. If they become too real, the
fantasy land doesn’t work.
7) One of the hosts starts acting out things which are not on the script. While the hosts are
allowed ‘minor improvisations’ this is not a minor improvisation. He kills another host in
an odd manner.
8) He is convinced that there is 'a deeper level to the game' hidden somewhere, and he
believes the Indian guy is going to help him find it.
9) He seems to have malfunctioned. He tells him that he will have revenge on his maker.
He also tells him that he is living in a prison of his own sins. Mr Ford suspects that this
host is simply repeating lines from former characters who he played in the park. One of
these characters liked to quote Shakespeare and John Donne.
