Assignment 10
Sunay Antonio – 2540887
1EMS
Introduction:
This assignment uses various statistical and graphical techniques for data
analysis and presentation. The tasks include constructing a histogram to study
the distribution of data, preparing a simple bar diagram to compare categories,
and creating a pie chart to represent household expenditure in a visual format. A
line graph is drawn to analyze the trend in yearly sugar production, while the
relationship between study time and marks secured is examined by calculating
the correlation coefficient.
1) Construct histogram for the following frequency distribution
This is the given data that we have to construct histogram for
Steps:
1. Entered the given data (Marks Range and No. of Students) into two columns
in Excel.
2. Go to Insert Charts Histogram.
2) Draw a Simple Bar Diagram.
This the given data that is entered
Steps: -
1. Enter the data (Courses and Number of Students) into Excel.
2. Select the data and go to Insert Column or Bar Chart Clustered
Bar/Column.
Output:
3. The monthly household expenditure of a family is given below. Draw a Pie
Chart.
The given data is entered
Steps: -
1. Enter the household expenditure items and their amounts in Excel.
2. Select the data and go to Insert Pie Chart.
3. Select 2-D Pie for a clean look.
Output:
4) The following data gives the yearly production (in tons) of sugar in a factory.
Draw a Line Graph showing the trend.
The given data is entered
Steps: -
1. Enter the data for Year and Production into Excel.
2. Select it and go to Insert Line Chart.
Output: -
5) Compute the correlation coefficient between study time and marks secured.
Comment on the strength and direction of the relationship.
This is the given data
Steps: -
1. Enter the given data into two columns: one for Study Time and one for Marks
Secured.
2. Go to an empty cell and type the formula: =CORREL(A2:A9,B2:B9)
Output: -
As the value is close to 1, there is a strong positive relationship between study
time and marks scored
Conclusion:
By constructing a histogram, we were able to understand the distribution of
student marks, while the bar diagram helped in comparing student enrollment
across different courses. The pie chart effectively represented household
expenditure, highlighting the proportion of spending on each category. The line
graph showed the upward trend in sugar production over the years, making
long-term patterns easy to interpret. Finally, the computation of the correlation
coefficient between study time and marks secured demonstrated a strong
positive relationship, confirming that higher study time is associated with better
academic performance.
