INTRODUCTION

“I touch the future of whom I teach” quoted Christa McAuliffe. Teaching

and learning process can be defined as a transformation method of
knowledge from teachers to students which will be carried out to their
entire life.
As a student teacher, I am looking forward for a more productive character
after this training. The person who will never take advantage of free times
and will keep everything on track. I was anticipating to discover something
new about myself and I believe that this out-campus training is the tool to
find it out. At some point, I am barely expecting the students to consider me
as their practice teacher because I am confident that I had no single figure
of being a teacher at all. The thought had made me ask myself- Can I or I
can’t?
Knowing the fact that every thought lesson and how methods of teaching
was laid out can affect how the learners will learn, I assume there will be
varied techniques to make everything consistent and factual. To attain
teaching and learning at a good pace, I anticipate having to go through a lot
of phases as I dare choosing this path. It will probably takes a lot of time,
effort, dedication and commitment but I know this will significantly help me
to have progress and know better than before. Also, modifications and
suggestions are expected to grasp since these are some things to consider
which will likely affect my perspectives and methods to do well in teaching.
Aside from being a productive teacher, we are expected to keep a good
figure in front of the students, build gaps in between, and most importantly,
maintain professionalism. Each student teacher must exhibit professional
behavior and dress appropriately for all teaching situations. On the other
hand, we must maintain good professional relations, public relations, and
human relations not only with the teaching and non-teaching personnel of
the cooperating school, but also with the community that the school serves.
In addition, we must satisfactorily demonstrate our competence as a
teacher, as outlined on the evaluation forms completed by the cooperating
teacher and we can only do this if we will ask for their guidance each day to
assure the immediate assistance in planning, teaching and evaluating.
Therefore, considering adversities and restlessness are keys to engage in a
more productive and humorous classroom environment for the students to
learn, together with strong dedication and hard work embedded in the heart
to do better in the field.
 RETROSPECTION
“Who dares to teach must never cease to learn” quoted Jhon Cotton Dana.
Participation in the out-campus training generated a lot of conceptions from every
other student teacher. Other thought that it would be an interesting journey, and
other believed that it would be a scorching trail especially for those who have low
self-steem such as me.
As the out-campus training was nearly approaching, I started to think what would
it feels like to teach numerous students in a real class. I then assumed that it
would feel great and at the same time, nervous because I was certain that there
would be varied traits and qualities of students that I am going to meet. In
addition, I also got curious on what should I do during this out-campus training
and how should I manage my time well, given that I need to keep my part time job
to sustain my daily needs versus we are expected to fulfil a hundred percent
attendance in the field.
On my first day, I humbly prayed for a good and approachable Cooperating Teacher
that would help shape me, and luckily God gave me one. Seeing the students and
other student teachers at the campus where we are sent for the first time gives
excitement to me which strengthens the urge in me to keep on moving and set
aside timidity for at least this time. So, the thought had taken me to the point
where I build self-confidence at a snail’s pace. Slow but constant.
While on the learning stage, I manage to handle 6 sections of high school students
-Grade 8 Voltaire, Grade 8 Dalton, Grade 8 Mendel, Grade 8 Darwin, Grade 8
Mendel, Grade 9 Pascal, and Grade 10 Aristotle- and I can say that teaching is not
a joke. At first, I found it hard to engage with the students but as time goes by, I
got used to it and I can say that I had some self-improvents throughout my daily
training. I had learned how to endure different circumstances, how to handle
different attitudes, how to build self-confidence, how to bear a lot of patience, and
how to impart something that I acquired in a humorous way of teaching to avoid
dreariness in the classroom.
At some instances, I had also noticed that there are various attributes that every
student possess. Some got the nerve to disrespect us by showing rudeness in class,
and some shows respect towards each other. Basically, we cannot please everybody
around us. Hence, as a student teacher, all we have to do is to extend our patience
and impart goodness to everyone around us since we are said to be role models.
Nevertheless, it is not only the students who possess different attributes. I had also
noticed that every teacher acquires their own strategy on how they are going to
impart the knowledge to the learners based on how comfortable they are in that
particular strategy to handle and assess the students and how students would
possibly react to that certain technique.
Hence, I can proudly say that this On The Job training at Dona Rosario National
High School has helped me a lot to become a better version of myself. The
struggle, the challenges, and the restless nights where all worthwhile. The journey
I took was extremely hard, but the development of my teaching skills had gone
beyond my expectations. My teaching abilities have improved with the help of my
Cooperating teachers-Ms. Annabelle D. Galon and Ms. Robelyn Dagohoys, also with
my Supervising Instructor’s words of wisdom Ma. Aileen Casera- from weakness to
strength, and from self-pity to self-confidence. It is indeed nerve-wracking, but the
experiences I had were all extremely memorable. Thus, I can say that the lessons
they taught me had molded me to become more capable and competent educator
in the future. You can also do the same! You just need to be courageous along with
being dedicated and passionate. Continue learning, remember, every bitter
struggle is equivalent to sweet success.
