My Journey to Learning English
It was my first time going to an English course. At first, I didn’t want to
learn, but my mother told me and my sister that we had to because it was
good for us. So we started. But after that, it was like a road I couldn’t go back
on. I couldn’t leave, and I couldn’t give up. Even when things got hard, I kept
learning.
For the first six months, I went to an in-person English course. I was
learning, but then the Taliban took control, and they closed all schools and
courses. I felt very sad because my dream was to learn English, and now it
seemed impossible. My mother and sister were the only ones who supported
me. Then, my teacher started online classes, and for about three or four
months, we continued learning. But later, he got a job and could not teach us
anymore. For one month, we had no teacher, and I was afraid I would forget
everything I had learned.
After one month, we found a new teacher, and I have been studying
with him for more than a year now. So in total, I have been learning English
for about two years. Over time, I got better, and I even started teaching
English to other girls who needed help. I worked with different organizations,
held seminars, and helped others like me. I also passed the Duolingo English
Test and got into the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF).
Looking back, I see that learning English was not just about the
language. It was about not giving up, working hard, and believing in myself.
Now, I keep learning, and I also help others who want to learn. My journey
was not easy, but it made me stronger.
