Core Productivity and Collaboration

These tools form the foundation for creating documents, communicating, and working
together.

 Office for the Web for Education: These are the browser-based versions of Word,
Excel, and PowerPoint. They allow you to access and edit your files from any
computer with an internet connection, making it easy to work on the go and
collaborate with others in real-time.
 Microsoft Teams: This is a central hub for teamwork. You can use it for group chats,
video meetings, and calls. It integrates many of the other services listed here,
allowing you to share and co-edit files, manage team tasks, and have a dedicated
space for different projects or classes.
 Exchange Online (Plan 1): This is the service that powers your email, calendar,
and contacts. You can use it to schedule meetings, manage your daily agenda, and
communicate professionally.
 SharePoint (Plan 1) for Education: This service is used to create websites. In a
school or work setting, it acts as a central repository for team files, news, and
resources, creating an intranet or a shared space for a class or department.
 Skype for Business Online (Plan 2): This service has been largely replaced by
Microsoft Teams. Its functions for instant messaging, voice and video calls, and online
meetings are now integrated into Teams.

Task and Project Management

These applications help you and your team stay organized and track progress.

 To-Do (Plan 2): This is your personal digital task manager You can use it to create
daily to-do lists, set reminders, and track your personal assignments and deadlines,
helping you stay organized and focused.
 Microsoft Planner: This is a visual, team-based task management tool. You can
create “plans,” organize tasks on boards with cards, assign them to team members,
and track progress. It’s ideal for managing group projects and seeing who is doing
what at a glance.
 Project for Office (Plan E1): This is a more robust project management tool for
planning and tracking complex projects with detailed timelines, resources, and
dependencies.

Content Creation, Communication, and Learning

These tools offer dynamic ways to create, share, and consume information.

 Sway: This is a digital storytelling app. You can use it to create visually appealing,
interactive reports, presentations, and newsletters directly from your phone or
browser, offering a more dynamic alternative to traditional presentations.
 Whiteboard (Plan 1): This is an infinite digital canvas for collaboration You can use
it during meetings or study sessions to brainstorm ideas, draw diagrams, and take
freeform notes with others in real-time, just like a physical whiteboard.
 Microsoft Forms (Plan 2): This tool allows you to easily create surveys, quizzes,
and polls. You can use it to gather feedback, test knowledge, or collect information
from a group, with results automatically compiled for analysis.
 Yammer for Academic: Now part of a newer service called Viva Engage, this is an
enterprise social network You can use it to connect with people across your
organization, join interest groups, share announcements, and ask questions in a
forum-like setting.
 Microsoft Stream for Office 365 E3: This is your organization’s internal video
service. You can use it to securely upload, view, and share videos, such as class
recordings, training materials, or meeting presentations.
 Viva Learning Seeded: This service creates a central place for learning within
Microsoft Teams [1]. It allows you to discover, share, and complete training courses
from various sources like LinkedIn Learning and Microsoft Learn, helping you develop
new skills without leaving your workflow [1].
 Education Analytics: This provides insights and analytics for educational
institutions, helping educators and administrators understand student engagement
and learning outcomes Automation and Custom Applications

and create workflows between your favorite apps. For example, you could create a
“flow” to automatically save email attachments to a specific SharePoint folder or get
a notification when a new task is assigned to you in Planner.
 Power Apps for Office 365: This is a low-code platform for building custom
applications. Even without being a developer, you can create simple apps for your
team, such as an app for booking equipment or tracking project expenses.
 Common Data Service: Now known as Microsoft Dataverse, this is the underlying
data platform that allows Power Apps and Power Automate to securely store and
manage data You don’t typically interact with it directly, but it powers the custom
apps and automations you build.

Security, Search, and Administration

These services work in the background to keep your data secure and easy to find.

 Information Barriers: This is a compliance feature that allows an organization to

restrict communication and collaboration between specific groups of users This can
be used to prevent conflicts of interest or safeguard sensitive internal information
Microsoft Search: This provides a unified search experience across Microsoft 365.
When you use the search bar in apps like SharePoint, [Link], or Teams, it finds
relevant documents, people, sites, and conversations from across your entire
organization.
 Microsoft Kaizala Pro: This is a secure mobile messaging and work management
app designed for large group communications, including with people outside your
organization Azure Active Directory Basic for Education: This is the foundation
for managing user identities. It handles your login and access to all these Microsoft
services, ensuring that only authorized users can access organizational resources.
 Azure Rights Management: This is an information protection technology. It helps
prevent sensitive information from being printed, forwarded, or copied by
unauthorized people by applying encryption and access policies to documents and
emails.
