15.0 ANCHORING

The Master and Bridge Team shall make a full evaluation of the anchorage
before anchoring. Whenever possible, anchoring in a congested anchorage
shall be avoided. If it is necessary to anchor in a congested anchorage,
adequate precautions shall be taken to ensure the safety of the vessel which
shall include having the Main Engine ready for immediate use and the
anchoring party standing by on the forecastle at the change of tide. Own
vessel’s and the possible swinging area of vessels anchored near by shall
always be taken into consideration.

15.1 At Anchor

Normal sea watches will be maintained when ever the vessel is at anchor.

 VHF Watch will be maintained at all times to appropriate Channels.

 Frequent checks are to be kept on the vessel’s position to ensure that the
vessel is not dragging.

 Close observation should be made of any drastic change in the weather


while at anchorage.

 Under normal conditions the Engine(s) shall be kept on short notice of


readiness.

 Should there be any suspicious that the vessel might be dragging anchor or
swinging too close to other vessels, the Engine(s) are to be placed on
immediately Stand By.

 C/E shall always obtain the permission of the Master before carrying out
any repairs which may effect the readiness of the vessel to manoeurve.

 The second anchor shall always be cleared away and ready for immediate
use.
