6.0 WEATHER

The observation of the weather and the ability to interpret weather information
is vital for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.

6.1 Weather Forecasts

Full details of weather information services are obtained from the Admiralty
List of Radio Signals Vol 3.

• Regular Radio Weather Forecasts shall be obtained by the Officer of the


Watch. These weather forecasts/reports shall be printed out and placed on
the Chart Table for the reference of the Navigation Team.

• The Second Officer shall make out a schedule of weather facsimile


transmissions for the passage prior to departure from port and display this
schedule on the Weather Facsimile.

• The Officer Of The Watch shall receive the weather facsimiles and display
them on the Chart Table for the reference of the Navigation Team. The
weather facsimile will be marked by the Officer Of The Watch with time
and date of issue.

• Upon completion of the passage the Second Officer shall collect all
weather forecasts/reports and weather facsimiles and mark them with the
relevant voyage number and passage. These records shall be stored in the
vessel's Archive for a minimum of 5 years.

6.2 Weather Observations

It is OOCL's Policy that the vessel will participate in a World Meteorological


Organisation approved weather reporting scheme. The Master will ensure that
weather observations are made in accordance with the scheme in use on the
vessel.
