Photosynthesis – Biology Notes
Definition:
Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants, algae, and some bacteria convert light energy
into chemical energy stored in glucose.
Equation:
6CO■ + 6H■O + light → C■H■■O■ + 6O■
Phases of Photosynthesis:
1. Light-dependent reactions: Occur in the thylakoid membranes and produce ATP and NADPH.
2. Calvin cycle (light-independent): Occurs in the stroma and uses ATP and NADPH to synthesize
glucose from CO■.
Factors Affecting Photosynthesis:
• Light intensity • Carbon dioxide concentration • Temperature • Water availability
